It appears as though the rumors ARE true, so sayeth this lovely (short) article. I am tickled pink and giddy as I can be.

Duchovny on "X-Files 2" movie

While speaking to the AP about his upcoming directorial film, "House of D," David Duchovny revealed that "The X-Files 2" movie will be ready to go in 2006.

"I talked to ("X-Files" creator) Chris Carter last week, and he said all systems go for next winter, early 2006," he revealed.

Regarding the story, he continues, "I do, but I wouldn't want to give it away. There's no script, so I haven't read a script. But Chris has told me some of the story, and it sounds good to me. "

There's not much else David Duchovny can do, all his non X Files stuff sucks and 'you're only as good as your last picture'. He probably begged Chris Carter to do another movie.
