Meaning superhero movies? In that case, I'll go with Watchmen, even though I'm a life long Marvel guy.

Dark Knight is by leaps and bounds the best film to feature a superhero. To be fair though, that doesn't mean that most of the X-Men, Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, and Avengers films are inferior. (please note the word "most") It's just that Dark Knight had that extra something to push it past the superhero subgenre and into the realm of critically and publically praised films.

God the watchmen was a steaming pile! How on earth do you change the ending of a f*****g comic and think its going to be ok....

As for best movie, I think X-men: First class was very well executed.

The change of ending actually strengthened the story quite a bit thematically.

No it did not, It in-fact made it lose all philosophical backing.... By framing Dr. Manhattan the character dynamic between Ozzy and john is changed. Now instead of being as a pure utilitarian ozzy dives into ethical egotism (the comedians role). This also puts a damper on Sally's position (feminist theory) in that she should feel obligated to expose the wrong done to a close member of her "tribe". Moreover Johns decision to leave seems forced as a result Viets actions, not as a choice of his own free will (a direct contrast to the book were he bucks his Determinist views)...

The Dark Knight
Batman Begins
Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
Batman 1989
Xmen
X2
Xmen First Class
Ironman
Spiderman
Thor

Those are the ones that come to mind. I like Watchmen as well. Its a deeply flawed movie but I love Jackie Earle Haley's portrayal of Rorschach so much that I've watched the movie 3 or 4 times just for that.

Did you just suggest X-Men 3? Not only that, but you say X-Men 3, while not the previous two. I am just.... I can't even describe what I want to say because I'm full of horror and disgust.

Signed,
Lifelong X-Men fan

P.S. X-Men (2000) is the best, not because it was the best superhero movie, but because it's the one which kicked off the sudden superhero/comic book movie craze.
