Is it true that Dumbledore is gay? I heard that J K Rowling herself said so. Was it ever said in the books because I've never read them, I've only seen the movies? I kind of find that too hard to believe. Does that kind of thing really belong in a childrens story, yes adults like them too and they did get darker but still it is kinda odd.

Why does it matter if he is gay or not? The hunger games has kids killing each other and it is considered okay.

Narnia has an underlying theme of christianity, don't want to indoctrinate kids so they shouldn't read that.

Eragon has drinking in it, I guess kids shouldn't read that either.

I guess being gay is bad

This doesn't make sense. Why is it that a straight married couple are allowed to be in a children's story, but a gay couple are not allowed? Presumably it's because children are allowed to be exposed to "romance" or "partnership", but not "sex". Why is "gay" associated with sex while "straight" is associated with romance and partnership? Both straight couples and gay couples experience all of these things.

The collection of awkward questions that a child could ask about a fictional gay couple is isomorphic to the collection of awkward questions that a child could ask about a fictional straight couple.

So the violent murders and straight teen sexuality are fine, but...

I'm not saying being gay is wrong, I'm just saying that it's kinda odd for Dumbledore from Harry Potter is gay for 2 reasons:
1) He's a Merlin/Gandalf type wizard who doesn't look the gay type.
2) They never ever say or imply that he's gay, so why even make him gay.

I know it sounds like I'm bashing but I'm not, I don't find anything wrong with this kinda of thing. It's not really important anyway. I'm not really a huge Potter fan though I do enjoy the movies.

Yes, JK Rowling did indicate that Dumbledore was gay. This isn't something that is mentioned in the book, but as an author or writer in general, you often write down traits about your character that you may never include in the piece that you're writing, but that will help you to better understand the character you're writing.

I'm not sure why, but I always found it quite obvious that Dumbledore was gay, so wasn't at all surprised when Rowling revealed it to be true.

Speaking of Lord of the Rings, I think the female elf who rescues Frodo and makes out with Aragorn in the first movie is really hot. I don't know her name yet because I'm only an hour and 45 minutes into the movie and I'm a total noob at LotR. Please forgive my ignorance.

Her name is Arwen. Are you watching the extended edition?

J.K. didn't say he was gay until after the series was over. She never put it in the book. She says she made it obvious, but I didn't see it. I never really thought of Dumbledore's sexuality one way or the other.
