Marathon Man - I liked this. Made me nervous when I was a kid. Did they remake this recently? I meant the old one then with Dustin Hoffman and Lawrence Olivier.
Ronin - Unfortunately, I didn't see this because the reviews I'd read said fair to middling.
To Live and Die in L.A. - Mainly liked this because of the soundtrack by Wang Chung. Wasn't "Forever Live And Die" by O.M.D. also in this film?
The French Connection - Excellent film! "You know all his dogs aren't barking!"
The Exorcist - Man, the extended cut I saw two years ago trumps the original, and the original was frightening enough. Then again, the first time I saw it was on TV so it was highly edited.
Heat - I had high hopes for this film. Di Nero, Pacino, Kilmer - what can go wrong, right? The pacing for one thing. Kinda dark and overly blue in most sections, too.
Die Hard - Yippie kay ya, mf! Where are II, III and IV? They're kinda the same, no? Fun popcorn flicks. I used to have Die Hard: Nakatomi Tower on PC. It was fun - for a while.
The Terminator - Saw this with a girl I liked. I actually went in not expecting to like it, after all, I was supposed to be paying attention to the girl. The story got me hooked, though.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day - Oh, yes. Liquid man. What an effect.
Robocop - I didn't see this in the movies. I rented it. It was okay. I'm not sure why it didn't knock me out. Maybe I'll give it another look.
Batman - If this is the Michael Keaton film then it was okay. What did The Penguin say about reassembling reams of torn paper with scotch tape? It requires luck and patience? It was funny at the time.
The Dark Knight - Oh, yes. They spent a lot of time on backstory but it was necessary. Batman's body is really torn up from years of training. I thought this was an excellent film.
The Dark Knight Rises - Dark movie. The only thing that perplexes me is how a mental patient can take a pummeling from The Batman like this. How'd he get so super strong?
The Fly - Good film, one of Jeff Goldblum's best. This movie is probably due to remade soon. Should be interesting.
Akira - I've written before in this forum how anime tests my patience. They present a story, and you follow along with it logically, then - wham! - out of the blue, odd, unrelated, unexplained things happen.
Seconds - Never heard of this one. Sounds like a John Badham/Denzel Washington type of film. (What's embarrassing is I probably saw it but forgot already).
Alien - Ripley in her skivvies. In Space No One Can Hear You Clash (the writing on the London Calling album). I'm also a fan of II-IV. Yes, even the one with the shoplifter.
Blade Runner - Harrison Ford hated this film. Isn't that weird? He thought the narration was unnecessary. The studio disagreed. I saw both versions. This film is so important its influence can't be understated.
The Matrix - Blew my mind. The Wachowski Brothers go from an indie crime drama to this? What a stretch! Visionary and influential film.
Demolition Man - I had a problem with this. It was okay, but not really. When I hear the title I think of the song by The Police. I thought the acting was over the top.
Dirty Harry - I didn't see this in the movies, just an edited TV version so I guess the full impact was lost. To really appreciate these gritty 70's films, like Taxi Driver, you have to see them in the theatres.
Psycho - Rented this one when I was going through a Hitchcock phase. Good movie.
Vertigo - Same here. In the same vein, I also liked Double Indemnity and similar noir movies from that period.
Marnie - Oops. Never saw this one (I think).
Rope - Hey! I saw this one in the movies when it came out. It was okay. Back then I didn't know who Hitchcock was.
The Shining - It's funny how this movie ends up in people's 10 best list all the time. Maybe I'm jaded. I thought it was long winded and not really scary. (Yeah, I know. Sacrilege, right?)
12 Monkeys - Oh, boy. Fans of this film will hate me. I forgot the director's name, but his experimentation with film techniques leaves me a little cold.
2001: A Space Odyssey - I would've liked to have seen this in the movies as opposed to video, but such is life. I probably would've appreciated the larghesse more. Stirring score, though.
Enter the Dragon - Oh, yes. Bruce Lee's last movie. Saw this again recently in an enhanced version. Angela Mao Ying, Jim Kelly, everyone looked good. One of my favourites.
Apocalypse Now - Dark confusing film. I'll admit it - I saw this when I was about 16 so I didn't get it. Like the movie Coma. I didn't get that one either.
The Silence of the Lambs - Boy, was I nervous when I saw this at a theatre in NYC with my friend. I thought it was a very good film. Didn't think it was Oscar bait, though. You never know.
Manhunter - I don't think I saw this.
Fight Club - Just like Silence, I was nervous. Saw this in the movies with my younger friend, I thought it was probably too ultra violent for him.
Shutter Island - I didn't see this one.
Taxi Driver - Saw this in a Bronx theatre when it came out. Oy! It's like I saw it yesterday, and I was 14! Powerful, terrifying film. "You talkin' to me?"
Full Metal Jacket - The first part, killer. The second? Not so much. I dragged my feet going to see this because I thought it would've been a copy of Platoon. Hey, where is Platoon on this list, BTW?
Straw Dogs - They remade this recently but I saw the original with Dustin Hoffmann. Talking about Dustin, where is Midnight Cowboy?
Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - Stanley Kubrick can test my patience sometimes. Hey, where's Clockwork Orange. That's really an unforgettable brutal film.
Forrest Gump - The leader of everyone here on WP! Oh, wait. That's Rain Man. Never mind. Come to think about it, where is Rain Man, giftorcurse?
Ed Wood - Didn't see this. I guess people have read here how I think Johnny Depp is getting a free ride in Hollywood. Okay, I shouldn't say that. I'll give the move a look see.
Godzilla - Godzilla-la-la-la-la-la! Boy, you sure have a fascination with our mutant fire breather friend. Kinda funny. After all these years, the original is still the best IMHO.
Predator - and Predator II - He's in town with a few days to kill. Wasn't that a nice logline? Killer rastas from out of space. What are they up to now? Predator vs Alien IX?
The Devil’s Advocate - See? That's the problem I have with some so-called actors (Keanue Reeves) getting a free ride though Hollywood. Their films are just okay with me. This one was kinda stagey, though.
Scarface - Oh, yes. Now that's what I'm talking about. "Say hello to my little friend." "Say goodnight to the bad man." Classica lines, like Casablanca, Hey, where is Casablanca anyway?
One Hour Photo - Didn't go where I thought it was gonna go. What a rip. I was expecting some real menacing and a dark twist. I want my money back!
Pulp Fiction - Saved the best for last, huh? This film has more classic lines, and spawned more imitators, than any film in recent memory. "C'mon. Let's get into character." "You see this watch?"
