Just throwing this out there, does anyone like this series? It's basically written by Ken Akamatsu who wrote the harem comedy Love Hina. According to what I've read, he first came up with Negima because his editors wanted him to write a shonen series even though he just wanted to do another harem comedy, so he came up with an idea to combine the two. It has some decently action-y parts which make it interesting, yet plenty of boundary pushing, censor infuriating ecchi goodness if that's your thing.

Anyways, it's about this 10-year old British mage named Negi Springfield who gets sent to be an English Teacher at an all-girls school in Japan as part of his magic training. The story is about him trying to keep his identity as a mage secret while dealing with his class of 31 hyperactive teenage girls - some of whom have secrets of their own that would make the existence of a 10-year old mage seem normal in comparision - all the while uncovering the secret behind his past, a past that is tied into his former home, the academy, and his father, the legendary but mysterious "Thousand Master". Oh, and as things progress, he ends up in a relationship of sorts with many of his students - they become his partners and comrades-in-arms via a magic ritual called the "Pactio", or contract.

I remember seeing the two anime series... the first one supposedly followed the manga, it was pretty good up until the ending which diverted from the original story. I didn't really like it because of the last 5 episodes or so, because toward the end the series did a mood whiplash after one of the more loveable characters suddenly died. Given, there was a happy part at the end involving said character being revived, but the episodes before that were so heartbreakingly depressing that it seriously ruined a Christmas vacation for me, since I had watched up until that point prior to leaving and the entire time I was depressed about it.

Anyways, I recently got back into it, mainly because I found out the manga is actually longer (about 350 chapters or so) and I found a place I could read it online.

Anyways, for those of you who have seen it, who is your favorite person from Class 3-A?

I personally like Chachamaru, esp. in the later episodes because she becomes more humanlike (she's originally an android/magic construct combination) as she begins to realize her feelings for Negi. In fact, she even manages a Pactio with Negi about halfway through the series, despite the fact that as an AI she technically has no soul and therefore can't enter a contract. Negi solves this by essentially telling her that if HE believed her feelings were real, then they had to be. Plus, the actual scene where they form the contract (which involves sharing a kiss inside a specially-prepared magic circle) lasted 4 pages, which is the all-time record.

Plus I think it's funny her reaction when Negi "winds her up" to recharge her energy (there's actually a wind-up key on the back of her neck, unfortunately the magic transfer causes a reaction that makes this look totally like something else.

I own the second series, but I think I prefered the first, not that it was the ecchi that encouraged it but it just felt like it had more sense while the second has a lot of pointless things, and it ruined Asuna by turning her into a complete idiot. Choosing one favorite is a little hard, but I guess I will go for Yue, I think I sympathise with the being pretty smart bit but having problems due to hatting to study, but still reading books due to my own interests. I also like Nodoka for her shy personality, and I also like Setsuna as I found her part in the first season was one of the highlights.

I think it's cool how Yue cheers on Nodoka in pursuing Negi while having feelings for him herself. It takes a special kind of friend to do that. It still comes up as an issue, but by far one of the funniest jokes was when Nodoka finds out about the Negi-Nodoka-Yue love triangle in the manga. Her solution? They can share him.

Oh, FYI some of this I'm getting from TVtropes since I haven't read all the way yet. There are links to relevant pages hidden in my posts on this thread.

I can understand useing Tv Tropes, actually I think I did the same to learn a bit about the show and what was the deal with two diffierent stories, I have tried not to spoiler myself, but I doubt that I am going to end up going through all the volumes of mangar, there is way too many for me to buy. (I do not read manga unless I intend to buy it)

I am not sure if I remember the tv series haveing a lot of focus on Chachamaru, which is kind of a let down, maybe too lopng ago.
