This thread regularly comes up every year - until this year. So I thought I'd fire it up again.
I'll start with - -

The Junky's Christmas.
Narrated by the late great William Burroughs from one of his short stories by the same name, it's a stop-motion-action film that tells of Daniel, a Junky just out of jail on Christmas, desperate to get a fix. After various endeavors to find money and drugs (including finding a suitcase containing severed body parts), he rents a flop house room. About to shoot up, he hears terrible moaning from the next room. Investigating, he finds a young man in terrible agony from kidney stones. Out of Christmas charity, he gives the young man his fix to ease his pain. Then Daniel's high comes from the spirit of Christmas.

Any other favorites?

A Charlie Brown Christmas, not so much for the story but for the music.

Ha. There is definitely a theme emerging! I agree with most of these and would also add Gremlins to the list.

I'd also like to add an old favorite of mine, Christmas On Mars, a scifi/Christmas movie made and acted in by the rock band, The Flaming Lips. Very dark story about a dying station on Mars where the crew are wracked with sudden violent insanity, and how an alien's arrival provides the Christmas magic to save them.

Whyever, every christmas morning (=24th around here) they are playing "The last unicorn" in television, and it has become my habbit to decorate the tree meanwhile, while watching it. :)

Every evening of Christmas Eve, they show It's a Wonderful Life on Channel Five.
