Alright here goes my idea. Star Trek lower decks.

It'd be a show dedicated to red shirts, all the low ranking officers that risk their life on each away mission, you know the ones most often end up being killed.

The show would differ from past shows by more than a few different ways.

There would be no main cast and you will never see any ofThe bridge crew.

There will be no ship to ship battles and no phaser shoot outs.

There will be no magical technologies, nor will the main characters be able to act in a world of no consequence.

There will be no interstellar politics, and people will not be taking actions into there own hands.

The show will also not fall into the trap of being a drama, there will be no wars, no sequential story arks, and the show will not be dark and angsty.

The show however will not be boring and it will be trek.

The show will be on a ship, a ship that is essentially one big emergency response crew.
The shows first season would be all one mission in one set solar system, an inner system of the federation a ghetto populated by people who reject conventional rules of the federation, perfect and boring utopia.
It would have recurring characters responding to fire department like duties. Inspections of colonies, investigations into the collapse of these colonies, and finally responding to emergency caused by decades of poor maintenance.

The show will be dangerous, sexy, and will explore extraordinary ideas.
.
People will die, not dramatically in purposeful ways, but randomly without reason. People will get hurt. Space is dangerous and unpredictable showing as anything else is a cop out.

Sex will be present as what it is a biological activity. IN the enlightened future it won't be taboo, however at the same time it won't be casual eitHer. Sex from a biological viewpoint is dangerous and risky, a flirtatious tone will be avoided.

The show will be about exploring the extraordinary parts of modern life.

It will explore the mind through the behavioural patterns of other species. Each alien race will have a consistent psychological profile.

It will explore physics and astronomy, with terraforming, solar system formation, and celestial mechanics being lived through the show.

Biological concepts such as population capacity, genetic engineering, ecology, nutrition, and rejuvenation therapies will all be examined.

Economics and resource management will be explored through the failure of the inner systems.

Utopia will be explored answering key questions, why do people take risks, how can everyone be provided for, and do people object to living in a perfect world.

Engineering and construction will be explored not as technobabble but as a living product of man kinds creative capacity.. Ideas like maintenance, system collapses, and the connection between humans and there work.

The structures of rank and protocol will be explored and an effort to explain how a Captain Kirk can every be supported in such ja federation.

The behind the scenes actions of the federation will also be present. What is star fleet intelligence, how does the federation protect itself from corruption of its own people. What is section 31,how are bans on transhumanist technologies maintained.

The format of the show will be ten episodes per season, shot in non sequential order. With no main cast, characters will only reoccur if their performances merits so. Although shows will be episodic with one new and different lead character each episode, there will be interconnection through each piece of the puzzle. I.e. the consequence of the third episode will be the cause of the first, while some episodes may be happening at the same time independently.
So here goes my premise for the first ten episodes.

1) A new arrival to the ship will be introduced as a replacement red shirt, taking on the role of a recently dead crewman. The Episode will be an instruction to emergency response tactics. Highlighting the dangers faced in space, and the knowledge required for survival.

2) Repair: in the aftermath of a habitat collapse, a medical response team must help rehabilitate a officer who has escaped certain death through rejuvenation technologies, while dealing with the emotional trauma of surviving explosive decompression.

3) investigation : a team investigates the structural integrity of a habitats to find out its inhabitants openly embrace pedophilia.

4) Due to a planetoids internal cooling and loss of its magnetic field, the population is soaked in radiation sickness. The entire away team must desperately attempt to save as many lives as possible while trying to maintain there own health .

5) plutoid, a byproduct of terraforming causes a planetoids to lose it's status as a planet voiding a longstanding resource treaty. An investigation begins to determine the cause of the change, and who if liable is at fault.

6) a crew member decides to reliquinish there federation citizenship in order to undergo a transhumanist procedure that is banned by the federation.

7) an operative acting under an undisclosed mandate sets in motion a series of events that causes the genocide of a colony of genetically engineered augments.

8) a scientist on a terraforming mission falls in love with a member of a species where there neurology mimics that of physcopaths.

9) a team is deployed into an a colony that has lost it's structural integrity, in a race against the clock that cannot be won, the crew face certain death.

10) a loan geophysicist on a research station full of starfish aliens, struggles with the feelings of lonelyness, isolation, failure, and self doubt, As he's about to oversee a life's work and the creation of a new planet.

Explored will be concept that although people in the future are just as flawed and relatable as the modern era, there will be a sense that character are managing and making real progress with their internal struggles.

1) a female medic of African descent struggling with fear and anxiety after being transferred to a rapid deployment squad. .Favourite tag line, I'm a medic not a doctor.

2) An ambitious ensign who dreams of being a flagship captain, struggles as their believed talents for diplomacy are over looked in the investigations squad,

3) Team Leader Tiberious, a superficially charming and egocentric non comm, seems destined to have his entire squad killed as his total lack of empathy and sexual obsession get in the way of his natural talents for fearless heroicsism

4) An experienced engineer and Vulcan , struggles with involvement in what appears to be star fleet intelligence sanctioned sabotage of a space habitat.

5) a elder woman who appears to be nothing more than a gossiping bartenders, is centrally involved in a network of moral officers who passively maintain the emotional and physical well being of the entire crew.

6) a young petty officer struggles with frustration after dropping out of the academy to be what amounts to being a janitor in space.

7) a quirky geologist struggles to understand human emotions as they are constantly overwhelmed by the strangeness of human behaviour

8) an aging pilot/operator mentors new arrivals with a seemingly uncaring and miserable demeanour hides an optimistic and caring internal character, while maintaining a secretive role as a federation watchdog.

9) a Klingon asylum seeker who's conflicted over there racial identity attempting to embrace Vulcan logic, wishes to undergo a procedure than will bring them-self closer to their Vulcanian cousins. So they can be legally allowed to serve as a federation officer.

10) a charming and suave science officer, who's motivations are deeply entrenched in the seeking of new knowledge of experience regardless of the cost.

The technology in the series will be somewhat stripped down as the mission and sector being visited are in ambiguous legal standings within the federation.

Being a highly overpopulated systems with decades of neglect from federation, technology will be budget conscious despite being nearly a half century after the voyages of Captain Kirk

The ship will be a old modified terraformer which has been stripped of all the luxuries of a new vessels due to its deployment on strictly humanitarian missions a ship several hundred times more massive than the enterprise, it'll be a slow giant.

Shuttle pods will be found in size of massive crew carriers which in condensed form carry 100 people at a time and ten times this many when in the expanded configuration.

The primary machinery will be in the form of giant mechanical spiders that are used in automated habitat maintenance.

Habitats will primarily be massive rotating cylinders which have had the majority of their federation specs parts sold or canabalized to keep the rapidly expanding population housed.

The away teams will all be fitted with customized powered armoured suits, that are not only fitted with jet packs but are also fully capable of atmospheric sky dives.

Although technology may be relatively basic it's stil the future and even a poor man can afford. A. Hover board

concepts and arcs that will hold the show togerther.

1) what it means to explore . In a utopian world where everything is safe and perfect, people will go out of their way to seek situations that are unpredictable,to the extreme that its a vice of many of the crew men.

This will parallel the popularity of extreme sports like BASE jumping, adventure racing etc.

2) utopia is a process not a state. Personal development isn't just an ideal presented by captain Picard, finding yourself is a national pastime of the federation. Developing a personal philosophy catered to ones own personality is as important In the future as getting a job.

3) The work is in the details. In a world where everything can be automated, the wholle point of work is the artistic process. (I..e. showing characters using redundant plasma cannons to sterilize a cargo bay, all so they can challenge there fear of danger.)
.
4) Tough love is institutionalized. In a universe populated by humans, cultivating a population that can turn off there empathy when need arises is a developed art.

5) Rank and uniform is exciting. there's a reason people like the color coated uniforms and titles. People are attracted to the ideas of power, advancement and most importantly the desire to be part of a team in high stakes situatios. In short star fleet is a team sport, and team building can be a highly fascinating plot line. How away teams are built, the competition amongst peers, the diversity of coaching styles, and the ability of imperfect parts creating perfect machine

6) it takes a village to raise an adult. Whenever a rigid and competitive command structure is found there needs to be some give. In a world with diverse personalities and even more diverse belief systems there needs to peacemakers would seem to be a invaluable part. In keeping with the sports analogy they'd be the referees who have a habit of passively altering the course of full careers.

7) The market value of unobtainium. People want what they cannot have, in a galaxy that seems to be divided between perfect and imperfect things, people will go out of their way to obtain that which is unique.

8) Sex isn't tabboo nor is it novel. paralleled to the rising awareness of porn addiction, in this utopian future where there's a seemingly endless supply of willing and beautiful partners people tends to be sexually bored. This will split characters between, seeking of emotional relationships, and seeking of new and dangerous sexual experiences( I.e. the rise of highly questionable hardcore porn) This of course will be shown through the pg13 version of sex with green aliens.

Whatever happened to the idea of a new Star Trek series about Worf commanding his own ship?

He's a bloody horrible actor, nobody is gonna make him a lead, especially if they have the risk of him holding the show for ransom.

Also being after voyageur would have us stuck in the realm of magical technologies that cannot be undone.

Granted it is possible to have him, as a guest if you could write in an arc that would undue all the Borg, holo everything , the time police nonsense and all the. Other magic brought by voyagor.

This would also lead to the troubling issue of how the movies effected history with no planets Vulcan to speak of things would be very different.

The only talented actor I can think of that isn't too old, too unknown, too expensive, or too random to bring back is doctor bashir.

new idea I have to merge my past concepts with the idea of linking it with tng.

Star trek Federation chronicles.

Linking a younger picard, to a group of lower decks crew.

Picard questioning his desire to remain captain of the stargazer(canon)

Comes in contact with section 31.

It could easily segway into some juicy TNG canon by linking picards past to him operating as a secret agent.

The use of memory wiping could be used to explain how he has no memory of these invents in tng.

A basically secret chronicles of the federation.

Explaining section 31s intergral part in maintaining the utopian society that is the federation.

Here are some plot ideas.

1) picard is sent to investigate the development of androids, set ultimate to destroy any possibility of an android threat.

2) Picard is sent to investigate genetic engineering rings, that are offering black market augmentations for parents seeking an improvement in their childrens life.

3) Professor galen leaves behind a string of clues of an ancient alien civilization, that may potentially be the parents of most alpha quadrant species.

4)Mogue father of worf is involved in secret relations with the romulans.

5) The use of memory wipings is having an detrimental effect on the mental faculties of the captain. Beyond simply a cheap plot device, picards brain becomes as integral to his life, as the effect of cancer on breaking bad.

6) Picard struggles with life choices, after being promoted to captain at a very early age contemplates his own philosophies and personal beliefs.

Very unlikely to happen, the fact that he is pressuring the powers at be, is really only detracting from the idea he someone they want to work with.

Unless of course its done as a high end fan production, for say netflicks which would be a good idea imo.

However I think my idea ironically would have him playing his own father. Also patrick stewart could be used as an old man discovering long lost memories.

Add to that the father of data could be played by the same actor as an aging scientist.

You have an in with three tng actors without having to make them full time actors.
