Planet Of The Apes: A

Planet of The Apes {2001 remake}: C+

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes: B+

I have not seen the other movies in the series, though I am looking forward to seeing
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, which will be released July 2014.

I really enjoyed the original POTA film. Besides the amazing make-up effects, Charlton Heston was brilliant! The sequels were OK, But I don't find them quite as memorable as the original film.

The original was a superb movie. All the rest including the TV series was cashing in. I still can't work out why a talented film maker like Tim Burton would want to do a remake.

Planet of the Apes (1968) 10
Beneath The Planet Of The Apes (1970) 6
Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) 5
Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes (1972) 5
Battle For The Planet Of The Apes (1973) 5
Planet of the Apes (2001) 1
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) 1
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) 1

I was the right age to find the originals serious and stunning.

I went to the pictures to see the first of the remakes and was quite disappointed to see it had been transferred into slapstick.
The scene I vaguely recall involved everyone running through somebodies bedroom reminiscent of a Keystone Cops movie.
Hard to take the remakes seriously is the result for me.

On a somewhat unrelated note for those who liked Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, Matt Reeves, who directed Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, will return to direct the next {currently untitled} movie in the series.
