The Invisible Ray

My NT sister found a DVD copy at a library near our home.

We watched it together with our mom and we enjoyed it very much.

This is a horror movie classic that stars Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff.

Oh nice!

Earlier today I watched an over-the-air broadcast of: Navy Seals vs. Zombies [2015] (trailer)

Our movie collection includes some movies of questionable quality but I see no reason to add a copy of this film. I do not recommend seeing the film. Its IMDb user rating is 3.3...and that sounds about right to me.

OK. I'm willing to say one nice thing about it: It is not as stupid as Redneck Zombies [1989] (trailer)--which is in our collection!--but that is a very low bar because Redneck Zombies isn't as good as it sounds (and I think it was trying to be stupid).

Thank you!

We liked it, too! I have to suspect it was poorly received because the public couldn't handle it being different from the previous MIB movies...especially not having Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones.

:alien: I thought us Aspies were supposed to be the ones who don't like change!

Last night we watched:

Split Second [1992]
---"He's seen the future...Now he has to kill it. He'll need bigger guns."

Shallow and forgettable. We both agreed it was trash and that we enjoyed watching it.
I got it because it was a 1992 film set in London of 2008 with a setting explained by an opening crawler:

---------+----1----+----2----+----3----+----4----+----5-
-------After forty days and nights of torrential rain,--
-------the city is largely submerged below water, a-----
-------result of the devastating effects of continued---
-------global warming. The warnings ignored for---------
-------decades have now resulted in undreamed-of--------
-------levels of pollution where day has become---------
-------almost endless night . . .-----------------------
---------+----1----+----2----+----3----+----4----+----5-

Despite that acknowledgement of climate change and rising sea levels, in practice it just meant they were frequently walking or driving through standing water.

Never heard of this. Sounds like a film I would enjoy.

Just remember: shallow.

We watched it last night. This morning I couldn't recall the story line for the last part of the film so I re-watched the last part. Turns out there wasn't much story line.

The trailer correctly characterizes the film. Thin story line. Action. Rutger Hauer's character being brash.

Junk-food for the mind. But, sometimes junk food is good!

Selfie From Hell.

Somewhat illogical film where a young woman tries to help her comatose cousin and finds the whole problem leads back to the cousin having been tempted to a forbidden site on the dark web which is reached through taking thirteen selfies. While some of the film hardly makes sense (she keeps her cousin in her guest room instead of taking her to the hospital, she won't call the police even though all the doors and windows of her house are opened at night, etc.), it was still entertaining.

Last night we watched:

Happily [2021]
---"A killer romantic comedy."

About an hour into the film my bride declared "This is really good!" I'll go as far as pretty good. But it held my attention even though I think at its core it was basically a strange, leisurely drama.

IMDb lists its genres as: Comedy, Crime, Romance, Sci-Fi, Thriller.
It was a "Comedy" but it was restrained. The "Crime" would be murder but it is unclear whether there was one murder or two. The "Romance" isn't two people finding each other, it is a married couple very much in love with each other. I disagree with "Sci-Fi", I think that should be "Fantasy". And I'm not sure about "Thriller", I don't think it was thrilling, I think it had undercurrents of weirdness, or strangeness, or uneasiness, or creepiness...it was eerie and faintly disturbing!

A good watch, though!
