My bride had a long, frustrating day yesterday (not my fault...due to a neighbor she has been helping!) so we watched something to help her recover:

Farce of the Penguins [2006]
<=>"What Happens In Antarctica... Stays in Antarctica"

An R-rated mockumentary spoof of the G-rated documentary March of the Penguins [2005].

My bride felt much better for having watched it.

Last night I watched:

Unknown World [1951]
<=>"Drilling into the forbidding depths of the earth!"

A visionary is concerned mankind might make Earth uninhabitable and we have nowhere else to go (he was worried about nuclear war, not climate change). He arranges an expedition to explore deep underground to see if we might find a suitable refuge there.

The science has some big mistakes. The acting and writing are so-so. The star, Victor Kilian, is uncredited because he was black-listed in some of the anti-communist witch-hunts of that time.

However, I am pleased to report there were no weird monsters or lost civilizations...just impressive stalactites, stalagmites and rocks (much of the filming took place in the spectacular Carlsbad Caverns).

I think this unknown world might as well be left unknown. I do not recommend the film.

Certainly take the time to do so. You will enjoy it even though it's shorter than the previous two.

The Scapegoat (1959)

Interesting old black-and-white film starring Alec Guinness as an Englishman who, while on holiday in Paris, meets a mysterious doppelganger version of himself. He is tricked into taking the latter's place as the owner of a chateau in the French countryside, but things take a sinister turn as he is framed for murdering the chateau owner's wife. The whole plot is hugely improbable, but it's all well put together and attractively filmed. Bette Davis has a minor role as the 'countess' of the chateau. Surprised that this only scored 6.8 out of 10 with IMDB reviewers.

There's a colourized version available on YouTube, but it's not been done very well, and anyone seriously interested in watching this film might be better advised to seek out the original monochrome release.

Avengers Grimm (2015)
On Comet TV

Titan TV single sentence description wrote:
Avengers Grimm
2015, Action, Adventure, Fantasy
When Rumpelstiltskin creates a portal to the modern world by destroying the Magic Mirror, four fairy-tale princesses - Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Rapunzel - follow him and fight his army of thralls to save Earth.
Credits: Casper Van Dien (Actor), Lauren Parkinson (Actor), Lou Ferrigno (Actor), Milynn Sarley (Actor), Rileah Vanderbilt (Actor), Elizabeth Peterson (Actor)

Unimaginative casting for Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, and Red Riding Hood, who Snow White refers to as simply "Red" in the bitchiest tone. Why do I say "unimaginative?" Because they all have the same physical dimensions; legs, hips, waist, breast, and I would argue facial type, to a degree. Casting had a very narrow view of what is beauty. Well, it is National Barbie Day, so maybe it is fitting.

There is a sequel that will follow on Comet TV.
Titan TV one sentence description wrote:
Avengers Grimm: Time Wars
2018, Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and the rest of the Avengers Grimm work together to find Rumpelstiltskin before he can successfully carry out his evil plan to take over the world, since he is unhappy living in the Underworld.

I don't like being so negative. I'm assuming the director/writer did his best and maybe had to make concessions for the producers (???).

I like the idea of the movie.
