Dagon (2001)

A good adaptation of A Shadow over Innsmouth, I quite enjoyed it.

Aside from the fact that they were chanting to Cthulhu instead of Dagon :lol:

Cthulhu is also another good reimagining of The Shadow Over Innsmouth, though the setting is switched to the Pacific Northwest in the near future.

Thank you, I’ll add that to my list of movies I need to watch.

Last night we watched:

Superintelligence [2020]
<=>"Single. Unemployed. Likes James Cordon."

The critics did not like this movie. The critics were WRONG! We both thought this was a really good movie!

The premise is simple: An AI that is part of an online game has become sentient and self-aware. It can control everything connected to the Internet, whether a computer or a device—including cameras, microphones, speakers, video-screens.... It has to decide what to do with us (people!). It sees three options, loosely speaking:
<=>- Help us
<=>- Enslave us
<=>- Kill us
Recognizing that it doesn't really know enough about people, it decides to learn about us by selecting one very average person and observing them for three days. It chooses Carol Peters, played by Melissa McCarthy. When she finds out the world might be destroyed in three days she decides to use those days to "make things right with George"—a former boyfriend, played by Bobby Cannavale.

Despite the premise, this movie doesn't pile on fancy special effects and it isn't about a Colossus, WOPR, or Skynet. It would be more like a Jexi. Despite the Science Fiction premise, this movie is a Romantic Comedy. A pleasant, fun Romantic Comedy. (I'm not a huge fan of RomComs but even I enjoyed this one!)

Strong Recommend!

We're watching the new Firestarter, but I mentally checked out after she

killed a f*****g cat
and they showed it. I hate that so much. Ruined my mood.

An entertaining movie...that caused a lot of controversy when it was released in 1979. Folk thought it was sacrilegious even though the movie did not claim to make religious pronouncements and repeatedly said Brian was not the Christian Messiah...who did exist and had actually been born in a different stable. I found it very ironic that there had been no similar fuss about Oh, God!, which was released in late 1977 and which had George Burns, as God, making theological pronouncements.

And Now for Something Completely Different------------

Last night we watched:

Extract [2009]
<=>"He's not a lover. He's not a fighter. He's a small business owner."

Intended to be a companion piece to Office Space...but I didn't think it was as good.

Though it was adequate.

The Endless.

Two brothers who had escaped a cult when younger find themselves invited back. While it isn't the suicidal UFO cult the older brother had convinced the younger brother it was, it turns out to be much, much worse.
Decent enough low budget horror flick.
