Man Bait (1952)

Also known as The Last Page (probably its original title as UK release)

A black and white 'thriller' which is billed as an Exclusive Films release in the opening credits, but a Hammer production at the end. The interrelationship of the two companies is an interesting topic in itself, but when the horror movies took off from 1956 onwards, it became irrelevant, as everything was 'Hammer' from that point on...

Anyway, this film is pretty indifferent as far as the plot goes (a pretty ridiculous one, quite frankly), but is quite interesting as it features Diana Dors in a prominent role. She is often described as the British film industry's answer to Marilyn Monroe in the 1950s, and as far as looks are concerned, she was certainly a serious contender. Interestingly, Dors's character is killed off halfway through the film - not sure that was such a clever move by the scriptwriters - and that mirrors exactly what happened to Monroe's character in Niagara. An American actress called Marguerite Chapman also makes quite an impression in this film.
