Most important is just make the best film or films you can. Make them look and sound the best to your ability. It doesn't matter how you choose to show the films when done, if they look and sound like crap, you know. If they look and sound well, then it's up to whatever audience to decide from then on, and again, someone in the audience at some point will be important and give you options. If horror/sci fi, you should definitely submit to horror/sci fi cons when they are back up and running, as those have name actors and filmmakers in attendance who may see your work. At the very least, you get to invite them personally to see your work.

Cons, as referred to, they often take place at big hotels and will have actors and filmmakers in attendance for photo and autograph sessions. Horror and scifi are the biggest kinds next to just ones for comic books. Cosplay and the like will be a given, but horror and scifi films are often shown. You would have to submit for screening your film like with any film festival submission process. Each website of a con or film festival will have the guidelines listed per submissions.
