Have you seen The IT Crowd on Channel 4? Do you believe that it is comedy at the expense of people with AS?

Yes & yes, but i dont find it personally offensive. The overt aspie traits of Richard Ayoades character i find really entertaining at times, although overall its a very hit & miss show and often feels painfully dull & formulaic.

I agree, and, personally, I wouldn't want it to be taken off the air. I sometimes wonder, though, how making fun of AS traits is all that different from making fun of someone's race.

I find it realy funny, I never realised that it may be at the expense of aspies though.

I just saw a clip on Youtube.

It's not explicitly making fun of those with AS. It's explicitly making fun of geeks. In specific, IT geeks. The fact that many of them may be aspies is incidental.

Except I'm not sure if it's as simple as that. If you look beyond the situation of the main charcters working in IT, it does look more as though they are making fun of characteristics that exist within some people (often people with AS).

That's one of my favourite shows. You British folks make the best TV comedies. Fortunately, with Bit Torrent, I'm able to download the shows.

Is there a new season now? I thought that Season 2 just ended. Or do they show reruns in the UK?

As an Aspie IT Geek I find it f'ing hilarious - its fun to laugh at traits you see in yourself. How can you laugh at others if you can't laugh at yourself.

I love The IT Crowd. I got the DVD of the first series as soon as I watched an episode on TV. My favourite episode is Calamity Jen.

Yes, they might be seen to be making fun of Aspies, but they do it so lovingly, the characters are great, really likelable because of all their quirks.

Yes, maybe they are making fun of Aspies, but my God, do they make more fun of NT's! Look at their boss! They make fun of everyone, nobody is spared!

I also love Jen, gorgeously dysfunctional. Right now I'm glad my wife doesn't read my posts. She'd never let me watch it again!

My favourite was the one where everyone thought that Jen had died.

As a comedy programme it's OK but sometimes I just want to run away and hide when I see some of the things they get up to. The episode where they all go to the theater to see a play about a gay guy and then one of them ends up in a wheelchair is a good example.

I think it's hilarious, although it'll never quite be as funny as Father Ted, which was written by the same guy :D
