Okay, I will edit the poll as you wish for characters, so don't vote if you don't see your favourite here.

Basically, the criteria for what denotes a CG character is as follows:

-A character created, as an end product, using computer graphics technology. The character itself has to be, in the finished version, have virtually no live-action elements (so a live-action character enhanced by CG elements is not allowed, as is a character who is replaced by a CG character, unless this replacement actually constitutes some sort of transformation in the context of the story, like the Hulk from Hulk).

-The character needs to have a human performance behind it. This can mean something as simple as just a voice over, to actual motion capture.

-The movie/TV series has to have some sort of physical performance. Most CG movies are out, but CG movies that require a physical performance via motion capture (such as Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, The Polar Express and Beowulf) are allowed. Others will be considered at discretion, however, don't expect Shrek, Toy Story, or Madagascar.

-The CG character has to be on a substantial part of story time. It also has to either have a substantial amount of dialogue, or be of central importance to the movie or TV series.

-Direct adaptations of video games, such as Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, will not be considered.

-CG 'animals' will not be considered, unless they have antropomorphic attributes (that is, they act or speak like a human).

Okay. Let the voting commence.

For the initial line-up, I have made:

Dr Aki Ross- Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within

The Hulk- Hulk

Gollum- Lord of the Rings

Jar Jar Binks- Star Wars prequels (yes, I am adding him, annoying as he is)

Davy Jones- Pirates of the Caribbean

The characters of Beowulf (I'll edit this if necessary. Ask if you want them split)

Cassandra- Doctor Who

EDITED: To include Dobby from Harry Potter

EDITED 2: To include King Kong from the Peter Jackson remake

Hmm, for Aki Ross I see. Personally, I was struck more by Davy Jones. Until Davy Jones, I would've said Gollum, but Davy Jones wins hands-down.

I voted for Gollum. I'm watching the third Pirates movie tonight though.

Hmm. Good one. I've got it on DVD. Got it ex-rental for $15. Australian.

Geez, 4 votes for Gollum, and a vote apiece for Aki Ross and Davy Jones.

Dobby's a ****ing elf! as Gollum said at the MTV awards. But I'll add him.

BTW, here's something funny. Warning, coarse language.

For pure coolness, I'd go for Davy Jones, but for realistic animation and facial expressions, it's hard to beat Gollum.

Beowulf's characters were pretty good too, and the amount of detail is especially noticable when you see extreme close ups of them.

Another possibility: King Kong.

I thought he said "Dobby's a f***ing f***."

Love that video -- got it on the extended DVD.

I voted for Gollum. But Puss from Shrek would be a close second.

"Hey Boss. Let's shave him."

It's not just that, but Bill Nighy's performance.

i haven't seen Pirates III so don't know Davy Jones, but i did not like gollum. The portrait in the books is so powerful and subtle though that i don't think any film version could have done it for me, but a real person might have worked better! My main problem with him in the film WAS that he was CG. :( He's supposed to be the shrivelled remains of a hobbit, not some other species entirely, which is what CG'ing him suggests.
I thought King Kong was perfectly done, but was too perfect to touch me.
Beowulf just looks/feels like World of Warcraft, and seems to me a sad waste of good actors!

So i've voted Ross, because I was blown away by that film, and found her very moving, and beautiful, and i loved the sense of drawing, of line, in it. And i love drawing faces. So it was heaven to watch. Thank you for reminding me of the film.

Loathed the Dobby character; wanted to boot him off the surface of the planet he was so annoying.

Possible addition: I, Robot. Is the robot CG? Was quite a good character. Like cross between Jeeves, ET, and Tarzan. :)
