Are you sure it's not the Michael Haneke version of the Hidden that's making all the lists?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387898/

I'd never heard of the other film. - maybe that's what obscure means :)

I think this would have to fall into the category of,"
Let's scare Jessica to death"

a weird film indeed especially the ending of all things..

I've seen a few but the least well known in Australia would probably be:-

Summers Twelve Months/the Twelve Months of Summer(Swedish).

I don't know if I'd call it "cult", but definitely obscure: The Seventh Seal (Ingmar Bergman).

As for cult, well thanks to my french cine class I've seen both "Delicatessen" and "Un Chien Andalou" as well as another Bunuel piece "L'Age d'Or" (loosely based on 120 Days of Sodom, I guess)...all very disturbing films.

And I've seen "Hands of Manos" which was absolutely silly, and a lovely job was done on it by MST3K.

Surprisingly enough, I've seen a majority of films listed in this thread, which leads me to believe that I'll watch pretty much anything...which is scary. 8O

Oh, and there was a version of "Little Red Riding Hood" released a few years back. Definitely cult. It was good, I really enjoyed it because it was so *out there* weird, but I guess a lot of people didn't care much for it. Here's the IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0388365/

I don't think it's that obscure but it's old so I'll mention it anyway (and i guess it's more obscure than some that have been listed)- Metropolis. I lent the DVD to someone and never got it back. :(

Delicatessen was great, btw!

- Blast of Silence. Criterion recently released the DVD, so it's not that obscure anymore, but definitely cult. Also, one of the best movies ever.
- Detour
- Ride the Pink Horse. Not sure if it's cult, though.
- Carnival of Souls
- A Boy and His Dog
- Crimewave
- Running Time
- Matango
- Decoy

And some more.

Where fictional films are concerned, I'm not sure what's considered a "cult film". I bet I've seen a lot of cult films that I've since forgotten. But, whatever, I'll give it a shot . . .

Fiction:

Fantastic Planet (and short films by the same director)
Two-Lane Blacktop
Mary-Jane's Not a Virgin Anymore (preceded by speech and Q&A by the late Sarah Jacobson, director, who was cool)
Plan 9 From Outerspace
Dead Alive
Gummo
Kids

Nosferatu (the original silent movie)
The Sore Losers

I also appeared in a few art movies made by kids I went to college with. I bet they're all lost and forgotten today.

Documentaries:

A True Testimonial (never really released, available by bootleg only)
Heavy Metal Parking Lot
The Decline of Western Civilization
Demon Angel
The Cramps Live at Napa State Mental Hospital
Out of Our Dens: The Richard and the Young Lions Story

. . . and lots of other obscure music documentaries.

On the less dark and more whimsical side, I would say 1985's "Alice Through the Looking Glass", although it does have its scary moments.
Here's a kinescope of one of the more "lighter" scenes:

The Australian film Malcolm, whose title character is a walking encyclopedia on Melbourne's trams, and builds a one-man "tram" at the expense of his job at a depot, may be obscure outside my country of residence.

Two Lane Blacktop is a really good one, it's aged well.

Goodbye Pork Pie. Fahrenheit 451 (1966). A boy and His Dog. Videodrome. Death Race 2000

Some recent ones, or future classics:

Wristcutters: A love Story (Everyone loves this movie. It's title is unfortunate, the movie is near perfect)
The Machine Girl. Jap horror/gore/comedy
Blood Car

The Boogie Man Will Get You (1942)
Earth vs. The Flying Saucers (1956)
The Little Shop of Horrors (1960)
Battle of the Worlds (1961)

The 1994, unreleased Fantastic Four movie. (Bootleg tape from my uncle who used to run a comic book store)
I win.

I don't know if these would be considered cult movies, but they are older and I've watched them several times

one is a film version of the book written by Aldous Huxley - Brave New World
the other is Soylent Green- a movie made in the 70's with Charlton Heston playing one of the main characters

Actually, "Duel" was Spielberg's first ever movie, with "Sugarland Express" a close second.

Actually Version 2... it depends on how you define movie since Duel was a telemovie which ended up with a theatrical run overseas.

Wow, that's correct! I guess I can't fool you, can I, aniki? ^_^
