I disagree with that totally. I don't think Gibson
intended the crucifixion to be anything other than heartrending. But as to how to
take it, that's a different matter. The Romans who were crucifying Christ were laughing the whole way through the crucifixion scene, so clearly, somebody agrees with your viewpoint.
