Far North (film)
Has anyone seen this film. I saw it today and it certainly did shock me (this was always promised), but not in the way I imagined. I don't want to give too much away, but the film is basically about two women living in the arctic alone, who come across a man and take him in, thus changing completely the nature of their previous relationship. To a certain extent (knowing it was supposed to be shocking) I guessed what the outcome might be (although not the shocking details). However, the thing that really affected me was the amount of sympathy and self identification I felt with the main character.
Having read people's reviews of the film, people are either disgusted (and I think they don't understand it properly) or they feel it is a great study of the effects of jealousy and greed. However, to me it feels like a study of a woman who has suffered so much that she has become almost inhuman - and yet to me her actions and even her feelings are completely understandable. I relate to her so much and that is what is shocking given what she has done. I felt the intention of the film was to make us empathise with her, despite what she does, but going by the reviews I have read noone else seems to feel this and even if they like the film they feel she is a monster or mad.
Just wondering what other people thought of it and if anyone feels this same sympathy for the main character.
