My wife and I remain perplexed regarding this question... :chin:

You know Pee Wee is trying to get Johnny Depp to play him (Herman) in a semi autobiographic film he's written. He must've seen the similarities.

Both Willy Wonkas get my vote. This reminded me of one of those "willy wonka recut trailer" videos.

they're both too silly to scare me...;) I guess Depp, because he was a bit darker than Gene Wilder...;)

Imagine Depp's Wonka and Pee Wee meeting each other for the first time, if they were real people. Now, THAT would be scary!

I would have to say that Depp's Wonka was the scarier of the two. Now if you take Paul Reubens and compare him to Johnny Depp, obviously Paul is scarier.

Also I would like to add that Johnny Depp is Eros reborne!! :D

Now, if you think that Gene Wilder is scary, then there is something wrong with you. That man deserves sainthood for his performance of Willy Wonka, which I think Depp massacred.

Problem reconciled. Thank you.

Gene Wilder's Wonka was "creepier" than Depp's Wonka. Depp's Wonka was just... weird... but in a fun way. Wilder's Wonka was the devil in the purple top hat.

Depp's Wonka is one of the few characters he's ever played that I didn't want to...

Uh. Teehee.

So there's that going against him. But Pee Wee Herman? Horrifying voice and he lives in a house that you just know... you just know he has some guy going around in a van kidnapping little children and bringing them back to the "playhouse".

So I'll go with Pee Wee. My brother had a Pee Wee doll when we were kids. It talked. :?

Something I just remembered: Those two (Paul Reubens and Johnny Depp) were fanfreakintastic in Blow. I have to watch that again.

It's interesting. The Depp/Burton version of Willy Wonka was on last night and sooooo many little things in it make me think that Depp's interpretation of Willy Wonka (and whether or not this was a conscious decision "Hey! This character has Asperger's!" is something I don't know. Maybe he was playing it more like "Hey! This is how Tim Burton acts!") made me think that Depp's Wonka falls somewhere on the spectrum.

It's the things like how he takes things literally (when Mike Teevee asks if people can be sent through the TV and Wonka first thinks it's a stupid question because they don't taste good) and his obsession with chocolate and then the things that go all the way back to the books like him being a hermit. It's just kind of neat.

Sort of like how I have a theory that Lewis Carroll had asperger's and now, who is it that's directing the new Alice movie? Why... Tim Burton of course. I wonder what he'll do with it.

Gene Wilder has a delivery to lines that makes him a) disturbingly sociopathic and b) a borderline child molester which c) makes him an outstanding Wonka.

Depp is a consumate professional with a different, less... molestery take. If anything, he seems to find children a touch repulsive.

Pee Wee? Only seen the one film. It was.. unmemorable. No more disturbing than most American kids tv hosts seem to be. They all come off like Pennywise the dancing clown to me.
