I'll be going, but not right off. I'll prolly wait a week or two.

I've been following the slow gestation of this project on and off since I got the graphic novel years ago.

I'm looking forward to it, but I'm more looking forward to the 190min Directors Cut.

Most of the complaints are about the re-writing of the ending.

I didn't mean the lines in the movie, I meant the lines to get INTO the movie. As far as the ending, I'm of the opinion that it had to be altered. The squid just wouldn't work in a film. There is too much backstory to it (the disappearance of artists, writers, etc) that would have been too difficult to work into the movie. And I think for mainstream audiences, the squid ending would have ruined their suspension of disbelief for the movie. Now we know that a simple test of the creatures DNA would reveal it to be a fraud. And yes, I do feel that some catering to mainstream movie goers must be done. I think that this film has the potential to do for comic book movies what the Watchmen book did for comics in general. It's going to show people that a "comic book movie" can be for adults and be about serious subjects and contain all the subtlety and subtext that the latest Best Picture nominees can. In short, this movie has the potential to legitimize comic book movies (and comic books themselves) with the mainstream public.
I also hope that this movie will get people to shut up about Slumdog Millionaire, as I thought it was crap and I'm tired of hearing about it. :P

I'm looking forward to seeing it noon Friday, then against Monday in Imax. But I agree, I'm sure the director's cut will be a lot better.

Been looking foreward to this movie since i first read the comics when they came out. I'm going friday and again saturday with friends.

I been following the making of the movie online and looks like they are doing it right.

Can anyone guess who my favorite character is? LOL

I just saw it.

It's good. It follows the novel quite closely in regards to characterisations; there's a certain "thing" that deviates from the novel, but the change they made still fits. It goes for three hours, and they included all of the pertinent back stories to each character (albeit, they didn't do it for Ozy, other than a basic summary with him talking about it).

Ror and Ozy being my favourite characters; the polar opposites. The Comedian is ok, I guess, but the rest annoy me in their typical emotionally normal ways (Owl, Silk and Doc being the ones that annoy me).

O, and most of the lines and scenes come straight from the book; it's faithful.

Just saw it too. I'll go into things a little more in-depth later, though I have to disagree with you on Ozymandias, Danielismyname. He was probably the weakest character out of the 'costumed heroes'. Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach and Billy Crudup as Dr Manhattan were my favourites, though, especially in terms of acting. Oh, and I thought that the substitute ending was excellent, and would stand up to more scrutiny than the original.

My personal verdict: 7.5/10

For Watchmen fans: 7/10

For Joe Public: 8/10
