Far out, you must be from vic ways? 208 that's a lot!

I think we have 1 - 6 or something like that.

It's very scary to think about the difference .. plus it's similar the situation with NSW too!

I hear WA is planning to secede by maintaining a permanent blockade on statewide movement of people. McGowan is behaving like a North Korean dictator,

WA is the richest state in Australia in terms of mining/Agriculture. If they throw money at a manufacturing sector then they could achieve secession.

No, not in the short-term.

The trick would be to divert mining and forestry and agricultural royalties/taxes that go to the federal government to the state. Next build something like a nuclear waste station in the middle of the desert which would bring in billions and WA could easily survive even without a manufacturing sector.

But yeah, the problem for that type of fledgling nation is they would be more exposed to prices on stock exchange for raw goods, Initially they would have to pay tarriffs on goods manufactured in the eastern states and increase state taxes to pay for infrastructure (previously funded by the federal government) which would be a massive whack on cost of living.

So I think they wouldn't go through with it.
