G'day ... yes, another Aussie

G'day all,

I'm a fairly long-time reader, but new registrant on the site.

One of my closest friends was diagnosed with Aspergers as a child, and I've been browsing this site and others for a long while, trying to learn as much about the condition as I could, so as to better understand and relate to him. In doing so, it's made me realise that I share a heck of a lot of traits with people who have also been diagnosed as being Aspies.

Now I know the worst possible thing is to self-diagnose - it's both unreliable and unscientific. The world is full of hypochondriacs But whether I have an AS disorder or whether I'm NT for me isn't really all that important because it doesn't change a thing. I'm me, and will always continue to be me, no matter what label I apply to myself.

But it's interesting and at times a little spooky to read someone else's post on something, and realise that it fits me almost to a "T"...

Anyway, regardless of whether you're aspie or not, there's not a lot of room to do anything about it.

The game, though, of striving to map out the "blind" part of my awareness, better my understanding of how "real" people run the world, and learn - as best I can - to play too is worth the pain of learning about a disability I'd never suspected.

Even aspies need friends. Welcome...

That's pretty much my take on things. There's not much I can do to change the situation, so for me there's no compulsion to find out "for sure". However I acknowledge that others will probably feel completely differently and may feel like until they know one way or the other, something's missing. That's fine too - we're all individuals
