First off, let's start with a date. These things take a bit of time to organise so I suggest a time in early November, preferably a weekend

Next thing to think about - location. I think somewhere in Brisneyland would be most central.

Melbourne here. This is a great idea- I'd like to get to know more Australian Aspies!

Wow, there are a suspicious number of WA residents about all of a sudden. And I'm one of them... yay.

Yeah, maybe we can look at starting a meetup thread for Brisbane peoples. It may be the most logical way to do things.

What we really need maybe (if the mods are watching and we ask really nicely pretty please with sugar on top) is a sub-forum for Australia or maybe sticky the meetup thread.

Then maybe think about what we would hope to achieve out of a meetup, just being social? Support? Or just because we can?

I'm new at this ...WP... also at coming to terms with being Aspie. Always knew I was "different" but,like you, I'm finding my self -awareness of how "others see me" a bit hard to handle. Have become a total recluse the last months. Do not "work" as have ME/CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) also....since 1999.
However, I do have issues to deal with in the "straight", ( non-aspie), world where my social ineptitude brings me undone. As a painter I find dealing with art galleries very threatening.In fact I know that I did myself out of newspaper publicity and possibly a solo.
What is your chosen area of work? Or possibly it is not what you prefer doing!
I had an Uncle who was extremely intelligent, considered eccentric, weird, odd etc he retired in the 1970's from being a bank teller. He died in the mid 1990's and was a " classical" Aspie. Of course that was before the term Aspergers existed. He was brilliant at maths and that job with minimal "conversational contact" with the public was perfect for a very conscientious person.
Whilst being an Aussie I'm not close geographically.......I live in country Victoria. Am happy to keep in touch if you are.

Thank you for responding to my sos.
Welcome to WP,.....as you can see i've only been a member since May so i'm learning how to get about on site too. It is
good to be in contact (direct or indirect...a lot of us are readers..and that's good too) with people who can hear/sense each other. the variety of communication choices that WP offers i find really comfortable -socially ie/ in this ether net community.
I'm in NSW. My sos need doesn't exist anymore because of a good solicitor and the vapourised threat of a work mobbing.
Basically the bullies wouldn't put pen on paper for legal scrutiny. Typical isn't it.
So i'm looking for another job/way of earning a living. I've had my fill of 'toxic workplaces'.

"Coming to terms with being an Aspie"... for me takes up so much energy itself because i'm literally made motionless often by the daily living/encounter/experience/event/persons and then the awareness of self as wired differently in output and manifestations. I feel like i'm standing 2 feet outside my body somewhere on the left of it. Therefore i'm MORE gawky than ever, more slow than ever before and less able to do the mental visual someraults of social predictions that i used to dance ably with before i was called'Aspie'.

Another WP person reminded me of the power of meditation and i have started again.
Unlike your work - as an artist - i could never find a point of balance at my employment. One theme running thru my life at the moment : i cannot seek answers from past experiences. Everything is driving me forward into a new world/ and gosh am i glad to let go of the past too. No regrets anywhere. Little steps moving forward.

Any chance of finding a job you can work from home?
Before being incapacitated with ME/CFS ( chronic fatigue syndrome) I used to teach. When I was a specialist art teacher it was great but when I was a classroom teacher it was hell. The system was always difficult to deal with and always felt alienated from rest of staff. Whilst I didn't have a great problem with that I found that the Principals often did, saw me as antisocial rather that asocial. This is evidently a crime in the era of team playing. I always was concerned about the students who performed better working alone and were forced to work in team situations.........hardly an egalitarian system.
Nowadays it is expected that all people be team players in the workforce, that is why I suggested that you might find something you can do from home.
