Thanks for the welcomes
Naomi, the biggest problem for me has been getting him to talk about things that upset or bother him rather than just trying to cope with it on his own. He's used to being so self-sufficient and whilst I understand his need to deal with things his own way, it'd be nice to know what's going on sometimes. We've also had an issue with touching; he dislikes being touched but since he knows I love to be cuddled he insists on making an effort to do so. I feel guilty about it, but if I ask him to stop he feels unwanted.
But the problems are far outweighed by his good points! I love his straightforwardness, the different perspective he brings to things I'm thinking about, his slightly odd sense of humour... Nothing has been enough of an issue for either of us so far that we're not prepared to work around it, there are just... quirks... that it would be nice to be able to talk to someone about without getting blank looks
