I talk to myself, too. For my job, I have to clean bathrooms and I'm by myself. I usually talk to myself a lot when I'm doing that.

Does "talking to yourself" mean out loud, in your head, or both?

I do talk to myself out loud occasionally, but only with a couple of words under my breath when I'm in public. However I'm constantly dialoguing in my head with myself--doesn't everyone do that though?

Greetings. This is my first post.

I used to talk to myself (out loud) a lot when I was a kid. Often in different voices. I think I was just doing it to entertain myself. In the last few years (I'm 34) I've discovered that I tend to do my best thinking out loud, often when spewing verbosity at unwary associates. That appearing to be the case I'm trying to get in the habit of talking to myself again to try and spur creative thinking and new ideas. It's oddly difficult to do as an adult.

Does this sound familiar to others here?

"Do I talk to myself?"

"Well, sometimes."

"No I don't!"

"Yes I do!"

"Prove it then…"

"Well, I'm doing it right now, can't you see?"

"Doing what?"

"Talking to myself—argh!"

I do it when I am deep in thought, I think so intensely I start to whisper the thoughts I have in my mind and then this turns into a full blown conversation.

This is interesting. Apart from the occasional 'you prat' or similar if I do something particularly silly, I don't talk to my self as in having a conversation. However I do verbalize my thoughts a lot.

Uh, yea. When I get ideas, I tell myself all about it. I also imagine stuff alot, and sometimes end up saying something i was thinking out loud. I also stay inside alot, and don't have many freinds. At the moment, I have no real-life freinds my age, although I probaly have a couple freinds on the internet.

I talk to myself alot.

Sometimes intentionally, like thinking out loud, or commenting on something, or trying to remember something, etc.

Sometimes unintentionally too, like if I did something really stupid, I might blurt out 'STUPID!' in a quite involuntary manner.

Which in public situations leads to.. rather bad results alot. =\

Not sure if this is common with people or not, but growing up my step mom seemed to dislike it alot. To the point of punishing me
for it. Ironically I feel she is the source of my involuntary self speech. As she often called me stupid, and many other
names that involved expletives.

I talk to myself all the time! It's so nice to find so many others do too.

Yes. I tend to talk to myself in my head constantly so its really hard to follow a conversation with someone else.

I don't usually talk aloud with myself, but I do have mental conversation and that's when my hands get involved and I tell jokes that I laugh at.

Yeah, doesn't everyone constantly dialogue in their heads with themselves? Or is that called "thinking"? I very rarely talk to myself outloud, but ALWAYS talk to myself in my head. Anyone else? Everyone else? What's very weird to me, is that sometimes I'll ask a person what they were just thinking. They swear up and down "nothing", even after grilling them with questions about what "nothing" they were thinking about. Is it actually possible to think about "nothing", and not just "empty space"? It's not for me! If I'm awake, thinking. Talking internally to myself. There is no "nothing" for me. Seems to me you'd have to turn off your brain for that.
