autistic tendencies

Hello, I'm a 36yr old mom of two boys. I was diagnosed with autistic tendencies when I was in my early teens (pre AS as a diagnosis). My oldest has been diagnosed with high functioning autism through his school, but I was advised not to get a medical diagnosis as it would do him more harm than good.
I don't mention my diagnosis too often because I'm always afraid people will think of me as not capable. I am married, and am glad to hear other perspectives on this site.

Well, I'm not sure if a medical diagnosis would do him any harm. I think it depends on a lot of things. Maybe it could be good for him in the future. For example, I haven't been diagnosed when I was younger, and now I'm 25 and I really needed an official diagnosis, for many reasons. Or he can have a diagnosis and, if you don't feel confident, just don't mention it, as you do with yours.
