Hi ~ My name is Michelle. I suspect I'm an Aspie.

In the Aspie Quiz, I got:
Your Aspie score: 150 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 69 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

I'm pretty introverted and a lot of things from when I was growing up "match" the Aspie profile. I've learned to cope pretty well and (to me) I figure I'm pretty "normal" presenting though my husband tells me otherwise. I'm fine with that especially since he's not exactly typical either.

I have an almost six year old daughter. She's been diagnosed with ADHD (which I do not doubt) but I have a strong suspicion that she's actually HFA/Aspie as well. She has a myriad of social quirks that aren't totally explained by "just" ADHD. We've had professionals tell us that she's not HFA/Aspie because she's too social which I think is a load of BS because
a) 30 minutes of clinician interaction doesn't show her quirks and
b) I know you can be social and Aspie

She's gifted and very high functioning but oftentimes, her meltdowns are epic. We basically scaffold around her as though she is an Aspie; much of it is the same for ADHD and ASD anyway. I'd love to get her diagnosed officially because that would help us get her services that I believe she needs.

Hiya, and welcome to WrongPlanet.

We, the people on the Autistic Spectrum have a choice.
We can either try to "fit in" with the rest of society, or we can be so egocentric that we can't be bothered.
I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.
