I like trains. My favourite eras as Southern Railway steam (the Bluebell Railway is our local preserved railway and has quite a few) and British Rail Green and Blue diesel eras. The latter is the era I grew up in.

I grew up in the British Rail blue era and I thought it would last forever.. I wanted it to last. I did not want change. I did not want it to end!

Oh snap, dat "B" button, tho MG!! I have literally never met anyone else who was a fan of Postmodern Jukebox. That's the best George Michael cover I've ever heard. My favourite 2 tracks [not railroad tracks, though I love the Empire Builder route from Chicago to the Pacific coast and the Copper Hill loop in Eastern Tennessee] by PMJ are the ones with Miche Braden. The two songs she covered with them seem as if she was the original artiste. Remarkable stuff.

....but back to trains... steamers have always transfixed me. They're like steam powered dragons. I have flown in airplanes many times, I am not fond of scenicruiser busses, boats and ships can be lots of fun [I swim well enough, but I have to keep telling myself mentally to remember to kick my legs while I paddle], I do enjoy a good drive on occasion, but nothing beats a train ride. I wish we had light rail service around here, but at least Amtrak will be connecting Chattanooga to Atlanta again sometime after the pandemic.

This is a video I've finally uploaded of that one time on St. Patrick's Day 2018 when I got to ride in the cab of an early 20th century American steamer. I loved it, but I have to liken it to riding in a car from underneath the hood on top of the engine [especially while in a tunnel].

This was the period from 1967 to 1982 when British railways were nationalised as, er, British Rail and all locomotives were painted a blue-grey colour. Coaches were in the same rail blue with a grey section at window height.

I think this was viewed as a pretty boring livery at the time but as time has gone by nostalgia has come about and it's quite popular with railway modellers now I think.

Kudos for the Buckeroo Banzai quote btw :)

I grew up with steam trains, you used to get excited if you saw a diesel.
