My 3 yr old daughter was diagnosed with aspergers last month. since then i have been doing alot of research and the more i read the more Asperger's seems to make sense, not only for my daughter but for me as well. I have a gazzillion questions and really want to find other people dealing with the same things. On the one hand i know something appears to be different for us but on the other I have a hard time labeling his as a "syndrome". To me it just seems like a different way of being. kwim? i really like the name of this site because it describes so well how i feel... like we've been dropped off on the wrong planet and have to learn "earthling" ways, sort of.
So is this the right place for me?

Lydia

I just did. thanks for the link. This was my score:

Thank you for filling out this questionnaire.

Your Aspie score: 150 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 42 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

There is so much that I just take for granted that seems to be an Asperger thing. I am just amazed. How could I have missed this all these years? (I'm 38 btw) And how do I help my daughter? guess i'll be posting some more stuff/questions soon......

Your Welcome.

These were helpful to me:

http://www.visualed.com/video/asperger.wmv

http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/785000/vi ... ill_vi.ram

The book, "Pretending to be Normal" by Lianne Willey.

I also went to one support group to meet other aspies sponsored by GRASP.

You can email me if you want to talk. I am a 30 y/o F who got diagnosed maybe 3 months ago.

Hi Lydia and welcome.

I take it from your postings that you are also most likely Aspie as well as your daughter.

My 4 year old son was diagnosed ASD about a year ago and in learning about that, I discovered the root cause of my own lifelong issues is AD.

I guess a lot of adults discover their ASD/AD this way, as diagnosis just wasn't around much before the 1990's.

The best book I have found so far about AD is by Tony Attwood.
