Hello

I've not been officially diagnosed but recently read an article that got me started on investigating AS

I have memories of feeling slightly "different" from childhood. Strangely i've always put this down
to being a bit special but not having concrete evidence to support the theory i've just buried my head in the sand and
attempted to conform to the 'normal' behavior as expected.

Some things I've noticed myself....

* Making friends and social situations in general being awkward and frustratingly diffucult

* Obsessional behavior with regards items and rituals

* Communication - dealing with people, eye contact, late to understand a joke, going on and on about something long after subject loses interest etc.

* Lack of empathy - my wife often describes me as being cold, selfish and uncaring

* Loud unexpected noises freak me out

* Bouts of depression. several notable meltdowns

* Actively avoid team orientated activities, preferring to work alone

* Enjoy long periods of solitude

* Generally I prefer objects to people

anyway, one thing led to another and now I am here!

current mood: depressed. work life is good, emotional life has seen better days

I hope to learn from this and share some experiences/thoughts when/if i can

im planning on seeking professional advice soon but currently im obsessing over AS and other things to get professional help.

I have never thought about this before, but there are regularly times when I will be in my own little world and my wife will be saying my name over and over again. Finally I will hear and shout "what!" very loudly and turn around in a great panic. This is very embarrassing at public places such as grocery stores and what not.

Also when I am drowsy and a loud car passes or one of my pets makes a noise, I become greatly distressed and become highly agitated and unable to concentrate for several minutes.
