Hi everyone!
I'm Jennifer, 34, from Oshawa, Ontario (Canada). I'm almost finished with the process of formally being diagnosed, and it looks like I am on the spectrum.
My mother brought up the possibility a little over a year ago, after she had read/seen a news article that mentioned AS. When she read the descriptions, she said it could have been written about me. She shared the websites with my aunt, who also agreed. When I talked to my family doctor about, I learned of a letter from a child psychiatrist that I saw when I was about 4. In the letter, he wrote that "she shows some autistic features, but does not show the full picture."
I found a referral through the Asperger Society of Ontario. Because of the wait times for formal diagnosis, they suggested that I seek an assessment first. I met with a psychotherapist this past January. He works with adults and teens on the spectrum and those with ADD/ADHD. His conclusion was that I was on the spectrum, and had Aspergers.
Earlier this month, I met with a clinical psychologist. The meeting and testing went well. The Weschler blocks were interesting.
I was given a number of forms for someone close to me to fill out; they are a way of evaluating me. The psychologist feels that I am on the spectrum, and she is leaning towards Asperger's, but she said she'll need to go over the testing she did with me, and with the forms my mother will be filling out, to reach her final conclusion.
It's nice to be here. I'm looking forward to getting to know people!
