Something was changed a week or so ago, it used to be enough to hit backspace once to go back a page, now I have to do it three times with my browser Opera, pretty annoying. Not sure if it's got anything to do with banners or stuff like that, my browser discards them.

I also use Opera and I am experiencing the same problem.

Just tested this in Firefox and Opera. It is browser-specific. Firefox worked just fine, Opera had the weird back problem. Can't test IE, may test Safari 3.0 in a bit, or when I wake up.

As for the cause? I have no idea. :?

Bump.. Would be nice to see this addressed, it's making me less interested in frequenting this forum if I have to go through this hassle or reload the thread index every time I want to check out another thread. Opera is downloadable from www.opera.no if you want to investigate the problem. One thing I like with this browser that I've not seen any others with is being able to zoom whole web pages with +/-.. Can almost not stand being without it.

Yeah, I second that notion. I've switched back to IE, but there are several Opera features that I miss.

I reported this bug to the safari guys two weeks ago:

http://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15786

I'll work on creating a temporary wrongplanet fix for opera/safari users until the safari/opera people fix this problem with their browsers.

pre-leopard safari is unaffected.

Nice, thanks. I wasn't sure you were aware of the issue.

Opera has always been slow on the uptake with things like ajax. That is one of the reasons why mobile ajax has been a long time coming because opera is a popular browser for mobile technology.

Opera in a nutshell: If conformity is the 'dots', they are very good with the placement of the dots but they are poor with the joining up of the dots.

Opera is a victim of its own success. There are worse browsers but most are DIY jobs.

Opera causes just as much grief as IE, and don't think if you develop first for Opera it is going to be ok in other popular browsers.

Most of this speed advantage with Opera is pretty unfounded if not negligible, especially how tweakable browsers are nowadays.

I thought it was funny that Opera allows the user hoax other browsers yet they have window.opera

In firefox 1.0.7 clicking back button or backspace is now obstructed with javascript on. Firefox 2 works. I tried some other browsers and it was ok.

I would agree there, Firefox 2 is MUCH better than 1.

However when I checked different browsers the first time it worked so there should be a solution. I wouldn't say upgrade to 3 yet as it is not a stable release.
