Just Got Accepted To Pitzer College: Need Some General Help
Hey all,
I just got accepted to Pitzer, a small liberal arts college in the Claremont area in Southern California, surrounded by other small colleges ( Harvey Mudd, Scripps, Pomona, etc. ). I'm going there based on the fact that it meets all my needs ( small college, liberal arts focus, Creative Writing classes, still within my home state of California ), but I don't know much about the area of Claremont, much less the college itself. Since I don't want to go in completely unprepared, I ask this; has anyone here either gone to the Claremont colleges, is going to the Claremont colleges, or will be going to the Claremont colleges? And if so, is there anything about the general living experience that I should know in advance?
I realize that this is kind of a longshot, but I had a terrible experience at my last college and want to be better prepared for life at university as an Aspie. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, here is one bit of advice, see if you could get along if your average class mate was like this.
The typical Pitzer undergrad tends to be "passionate, creative, dynamic, and socially involved. Even the so-called 'jock' sub-group volunteers to mentor young people in the surrounding area and are capable of passionately debating some issue of importance." Almost everyone here "is aware of what's going on in the world and in politics, and is likely to be left wing politically." Pitzer has long had the reputation of a 'hippie' school, and while "there are still remnants of hippies around, walking around with no shoes, no shaving (for guys or girls), caring about the environment, these days there are more preppy people wearing Abercrombie and sipping chai tea." No matter what demographic they fit, "Pitzer students tend to be really laid back (not judgmental or snobby). You don't have to spend ridiculous amounts of money buying 'fashionable' clothing if you don't want to, because stuff like that doesn't impress people here. It's nice to leave all the horrible things about high school in high school and just relax for a few years."

Claremont is a very nice community, especially the Claremont colleges, although it does get very hot in the fall, spring, and summer. I don't know if Pitzer is the best college for Aspies, since Pitzer tends to have a lot of parties, but Harvey Mudd College, where I go, is right next to it and has plenty of Aspies. You can always come by to the Case dorm if you want to be around other Aspies. In any case, congratulations on being accepted to one of the awesome Claremont colleges!
P.S. I live in Santa Barbara, too (specifically, Goleta) (although I'm at Harvey Mudd right now). Where in SB do you live?
