I have wanted to be a teacher since elementary school. So when i took my first education class i was excited. Turns out im not cut out for teaching. (go figure) so ive spent the summer and the start of the semester "undecided" for my major. Now in the 5th week i may have found a major. Id never heard of this before. its called a Child Life Specialist. they work with children in the hospital and their families. They help explain procedures, and treatment. They also spend time with the kids to make them feel comfortable. I think this is a good alternative to teaching since i love children. I still need to do some thinking and talk to my parents, and maybe a career counselor. What do you think?

I would just keep in mind how much you think you might be effected by seeing kids who are scared and in pain....I worked with teenagers in a residential center, for 8 years, and sometimes it wore my out to be around all the "negativity".I felt like the kids liked me and seemed to get some good out of my being there and that made it worth it but it was really draining sometimes.I dont think I could handle the job your referring to myself because kids crying and "whinning" really jangles my nerves....I want to help them but some of their pain is unavoidable and part of treatment they need to get better.Everybody has their week spots and this is one of mine, you will have to look inside yourself to know if its something that might bother you.

I'm sure that would be something you'd have to deal with. Like Krex says, depends on the individual. I've been with elephants and my own kids when they were hurt or scared, and it made a huge difference to have somebody there they trusted.

Did you say that wasn't proper? Did you march out on the track?
You were quiet, just like mice. And now you say that we're not nice.
Well thank you buddy for your advice...
