If you had to study overseas as part of a group,
or on your own, would you do it?

If so, name your countries by geographical region.

My choices would be:

Europe: England, Spain, Italy, or Scotland

South America: Argentina, Ecuador, or Peru

Africa: Morroco, South Africa, or Egypt

Asia: India, Japan, or South Korea

Oceania: Australia/New Zealand or Puerto Rico

Scotland.

Right now I don't want to have to learn a new language, so that restricts my options somewhat.

Puerto Rico is sooo not Oceania. It's middle America.

Anyways, I plan to study one year in the UK (or in Ireland, if I still can switch).

Hadn't noticed that in the OP. Yeah, PR is in the Caribbean, which is definitely NOT Oceania. Actually, it's even part of the United States.

Back in the 80s, I spent 2.5 years in japan. On one hand, it was easily the hardest time of my life. After a lot of thought and a new perspective after 20+ years, I think the problem was that the school I was attending was filled with a lot of american kids having a hard time adjusting to japan. Mix that with my bad people skills and it ended up being complete hell for me. On the other hand, I liked japan very much, and try to get back there whenever I can. Spending an extended period of time in another country is an extremely valuable experience.

I'd really like to study abroad, but as a math major in my particular college I'm not sure I'll get the chance (other than a quick 1-month program). Since I speak German and am learning Japanese, I'd most like to go to Germany, Austria, or Japan. Switzerland wouldn't be bad either, except I hear that in the German parts they speak a really odd dialect of German. Actually, I think I'd rather study abroad in Germany and visit Japan..
