I’m a special education teacher.

I’m leaving for mental health reasons.

Is it okay to give a 2 weeks’ notice? They are going to be scrambling when I leave, but I just cannot do this.

I think 2 weeks is fairly standard everywhere

Sucks for them but you need to look after yourself

Two weeks' notice seems to be the thing, although in the case of a teacher in the middle of the school year you will be leaving both the school and the students in the lurch. You may want to consider longer notice for those reasons.

Be aware though that your giving two weeks' notice does not stop them from saying, that's ok, get out today. Be prepared for that. I know people who gave two weeks' notice and immediately got the bum's rush,

In my old job at a university, it was 3 calendar months!

What does your contract say about notice? And whether you have to work it or not if you're leaving because of ill health?

Is there any sick leave you can take so you don't have to work it?

You need to look after your mental health - that's your top priority. The rest of it is their problem.

Are you quitting or taking a leave of absence?
If quitting, as others said, 2 weeks' notice is standard unless stated otherwise in your contract. But, mainly I just wanted to say I'm sorry you're going through such a rough time.

Edit: I noticed the OP was from a few weeks ago. Hope you have figured things out since then and are getting back on your feet.
