SSI or any kind of SS disability is very hard to get. You need extensive Dr's documentation of your inability to work. At your age (20), you would likely need to prove that you cannot work any job at all. SS uses a grid to determine level of disability (among many other factors); your age, EDUCATION, and vocational experience.

I've applied for SSDI (my 90 days is almost up, so a decision is coming soon) and they haven't asked once about my educational level....just my previous work experience. Wait a minute...I just realized something.....they care about experience, but not education....why....they're just like regular employers!

I know some Aspies who are fairly high-functioning who get it. I even know some who WORK and get it because their income from the job is below a certain level.

You should probably pursue several avenues at once, including Vocational Rehabilitation

Can't speak for others, but my vocational rehab office is a joke.

They do care about education based on the grid they use. If you have more education, they figure you can transfer your skills more easily than someone with only say a grade school education.

I know an Aspie who gets it and some other people who are NT but have mental illness - they work super stressful jobs part-time and still somehow get it.

Welcome to the club - mine is too - if you don't mind my asking, what is the problem you are having with yours?

And I'm telling you....they haven't asked about it. I wouldn't lie...I thought it was strange too. They've only asked about work history.

Maybe they only ask it for SSI. I'm applying for SSDI. That's all I can think of. Either that, or they're inferring that I have degrees because I put down grad assistant on my work history. Still, you think they would have to confirm that.

Basically, they always act like they're *so* close to getting me something....they even tell me what the job is, then....NOTHING. I don't even get an interview. I think they get off on psyching me out...

Wow that must be frustrating. i'm having a very similar experience. They never call. I always have to call them. Then they say they're "working on" a possible job, will get back to me in a week or so, then nothing. (I call them and they usually just tell me to keep looking for jobs or to have confidence, etc) I'm seriously wondering if the jobs exist or if they just think I'm not fit for the jobs.

Any idea why they haven't asked about my education? How do you know they're supposed to?

I know two Aspies with bachelors degrees who get it.....
