I was going to write a long book of a post giving my job history, but here's the short version.

Dishwasher [twice]
Tree nursery worker
Worked at Subway [very briefly.]
Poultry plant worker [ditto]
office worker at a church
telemarketer
door to door salesperson
tutor for elementary school kids
convenience store clerk
security guard [briefest job of all!]

Worked at the Post Office [ seven years, longest job to date, and most spectrum friendly depending on the job.]
Bookseller at Borders
customer service rep for a teleconferencing company
data entry clerk in health care
accounting clerk/bookkeeper
tax accountant at major accounting firm [did not work out!]

Best jobs were the Post Office [at times] and the data entry clerk job. I did okay at the bookseller job but hated working the register. The Post Office had difficult hours and it was obvious even 9-10 years ago that they were not going to be around long enough for me to get to retirement.

Most of the other jobs I worked generally a few days-few weeks, sometimes a few months. A couple of them I quit after the first day. Unfortunately over the past nine years I have not held a job for longer than a year, and have been unemployed for the last 26 months.

My first paid gig was when I was about 12 or so.
There was a market in town, and in one of the stalls a guy was selling Rubik's cubes. The ones he had were really good - real quality build. So smooth... I asked if I could have one for free if I could solve it in less than a minute, but he said no. In stead, he said that if I could consistently solve it in less than two minutes, he would hire me for three days.
So I was paid 50 NOK per hour to just sit there until someone would say that "that's impossible. Nobody can do that.", and then he'd say "If this kid can do it in two minutes, will you buy one?".
So my first job ever was to demonstrate that Rubik's Cube wasn't impossible to solve.

Since then I've done too many things to list all of them.
Some:
Sound engineer, lights engineer, stage hand, service engineer on ships and now technical instructor for ship crews.

ah! somebody else who sold cutco knives. i suspect you were a lot more successful than i was, i couldn't sell a single box to anybody including my own family who told me how stupid i was to even try selling knives. i ended up even poorer afterwards. that was my last stop before the army. it's damned hard to make a living. :(

Cook, then "Dining room" at a McDonald's for 3 months - sacked for being too slow
Checkout slave for a Coles supermarket for 4 years - quit because shifts were being cut because I was way too expensive (why pay me $15 when they could pay a 15-year-old $8)
Night sorter at Australia Post for 3 months - hopefully, they will extend my contract, but was 2 letters/minute below KPIs at 9 month review (but I had a crappy week that week), so I might see if I can negotiate getting into a different role.

File Clerk at Sylvan during highschool (2 yrs)
Undergraduate Researcher during College (2 yrs)
Courtesy Clerk at Safeway (7 months so far)
Volunteer Intern in a lab at the local medical school (almost 2 months so far)

My lab work has not been paid but it was for the experience. Most lab work within colleges under the PhD level is not paid.

Its quite interesting that so many people here have had jobs that require social skills. For my job at Safeway which I suck at, I would've had my ass fired if it hadn't been for a job coach. And my position is not even that socially demanding.

I see a pattern here..... to which I fit a bit...

Let's see... starting in the early 90s... smaller companies I'll just list the job title/industry...

Also, 10 years worth of going to college is shoved in between several of these jobs.

Stop-N-Go cashier (bought out later by Diamond Shamrock)
PC Tech at a local community college
Taco Bell
Whataburger
Taco Bell #2 (each taco bell was quit/new hire at new location not a transfer)
Taco Bell #3
Taco Bell #4
PC "Depot" Tech (warranty repair center for dell/hp/ibm/toshiba)
Taco Bell #5
Bank Mailroom
Credit Profile Maintenance Specialist @ one of the 3 big credit agencies (basically data entry).
Marketing Trainee @ central office for one of the nation's largest supermarket parent companies.
Inventory Control @ multi-million sq foot warehouse. My job was to make space for incoming freight with 99% full capacity.
Parking rental cars @ the airport
Freight Billing for Central Freight
Assembly line @ Compaq
Chevron cashier.
Freight Billing for Central Freight
Substitute Teacher
Inbound call center ProFlowers (seasonal)
Substitute Teacher
Spanish Teacher / TAKS Assistant / Substitute @ a different district
Retail picture framing sales/production
T-Mobile Tier 2 PDA Tech Support
Retail picture framing management

Most of these I quit. I was fired from my first job @ Stop-N-Go, a few assignments simply ran out of work, a couple I lost due to conflicts with the employment agency and clients when I was working through temp agencies.

My last job I was fired after an upper management change, for a reason that they had no evidence of so I am for the FIRST TIME collecting unemployment...

Looking for new work currently. Honestly I would get back into computers, but I "don't have enough experience" despite being an very strong enthusiast and having had a number of jobs working with computers. I probably should have studied computers in college instead of liberal arts. I think I would have been much more successful.
