The average wage in Australia is $72,800. I think most people without children could be millionaires by the time they retire. In fact, without superannuation, the average person needs about $1,000,000 to live out the rest of their life.

I think becoming a billionaire is a better target. :)

Indeed!

For bully-impressing-purposes it's definitely not much. More importantly, it's not enough to never have to work again, either - unless you're already near the end of your life or can live very cheaply. Ten million is more like it. But 1 is a start. :)

Having said that, $72,800 is the mean wage of those working full time. The median wage of all workers is $46,900 - quite a difference. So I don't think reaching a net worth of $1m is really within the reach of the average Australian.

I don't care much for money, for me it's about being happy which defines how successful one is. So if I wanted to impress people I'd just aim to show that I have a happy life.
