Applied for some jobs last week

At least two of them answered in ways that sounded like scams

Considering not applying for jobs anymore until I get made redundant from my current dumpster fire "job"

I have no idea how to determine if a job is a scam

Did you go to the Coast Guard interview?

What did those two answers say? Put them up here if you can (while blanking out the personally identifying info of course). I've done hundreds of interviews in my lifetime and I like to think I'm good at sniffing scams out.

I am sending you a conditional offer of employment to your email. This project may or may not start around August 1, 2024.

The only thing we need is to do a basic background check. It goes back seven years only checks for felonies. Is that something you comfortable with?

If you accept the offer and the background check, please let me know and I will send it to your email!".

This one looks OK to me. They're just a bit over-excited. Amazon sent me much the same sort of thing once.

I assume it's a text message (it says reply STOP to unsubscribe). Beware of phishing; just check that the link belongs to the company you applied to, and that the form doesn't ask for anything unusual or inappropriate (passwords, bank details, etc.)

This one doesn't look right to me. They're offering you a job without even an interview, which isn't normal. It is also written in poor English.

Good luck with the first one. Avoid the second one.
