Do you think it's harder for people with disabilities
Finding a job is hard for lot of people but do you think it be harder for people with disabilities?
I think it be harder because lot of people are judgmental. My boyfriend has poor spelling because of his dyslexia. If he filled out applications for work and turned it in with lot of misspelled words, what do you think the manager is going to do with the application?
Throw it away and not even consider the person could be dyslexic but instead assumes he isn't very smart. If someone had poor handwriting do to a disability, their application gets thrown away too.
It's common for aspies to have problems with fashion because we aren't interested in it or it's due to sensory issues so we prefer to wear type of clothing. Since it seems like so many managers judge people by their clothes, boom it be harder for that aspie to get a job.
And if you don't have any references because you don't have any friends, that make it hard for you to get a job too. I always had to put my teachers down so that means I had put down the words special ed because they can just call them for a reference about me and they tell them what my difficulties were, boom they don't hire me because they think I wouldn't be able to do the job. I don't know if that really happened, it's just a guess.
So yeah I think it's harder for people with disabilities to get a job.

Dissing abilities topic
I would rather people think I have differences or challenges, but I sense the spirit of Spokane_girl's post.
I have a problem making myself understood clearly and understanding. I eventually catch on, but many employers are impatient. Time is money. I do not apply for jobs needing interactive communication; I expect just to do the job I am instructed to do. But for the money, employers raise the bar just so they can get the best for less, and for this reason I often lose out on a mundane job to someone who may be more talkative, faster, and of course, younger. I am often asked why someone my age wants to work where I am applying. Employers have the option of choosing whom they want. Oh, well. It's their call.

Yes and no. I don't find it too hard to get jobs I'm probably not suited for (ie. jobs ). I find it hard to keep jobs for more than a few years. I end up feeling I'm going nowhere, again, or have a falling out with the boss, again. I'm having falling out problems at the moment with bullying but I am tackling it with help, I'm not giving up yet.
Yes, I am constantly forced to apply for jobs beneath my abilities. Because the world judges what I show as being less than what it actually is.
I am not under the illusion that everyone is so shallow or shortsighted. Just the ones I have met so far. I am looking forward to the time when I will not discounted as a "weirdo."

It depends on the severity and type of disability.
Someone with for example, a physical disability eg; cerebral palsy, may actually have an easier time getting a job than someone with AS. I mean, people can "see" the disability and usually people with cerebral palsy don't have deminished intellectual abilities. They are likely to get hired because the employer can "see" the disability and there for know the severity of it. Then again, someone with severe or profound cerebral palsy may not get a job because they are unable to function independantly.
Ok...my point being...someone with AS might find it as easy as the general population to get employed. Reason because, AS is not a visible disability. It is still not well known by the general public, either. If an employer doesn't know what AS is, they may assume that the person is being "rude" in the interview. Eg; eye contact issues or saying the wrong thing. They may assume that the person is unintellegent by what clothing they wear [some AS have sensory issues and don't like things like suits, or other "fancy" clothing]....yes, some people determine intellegence by clothes...it's stupid!
Anyway...I'm not employed. Then again, i'm only 16 so I have a while to go before I need to start worrying about it I guess.
