I know im not the only one in this situration its one of the facts that keeps me sane but..
Being unemployed is the central issue of my life i feel like ' worthless non-contributing, bludging member of society' That how i feel
I acknowledge it and i know the only way to make those feelings go away is to keep busy and keep trying.
Usually i do most of the house work these days in a family household of eight. But this does not offer me the benefits a real job provides. These thing include being able to support yourself finacially. Increse your social network and be proud of your acheivments.

I am unemployed.
All though I am only 16, I do feel like I am living off everyone elses taxes and am kind of guilty about it.

Also, not working limits my opportunities to barely nothing in the sense of making friends and developing my social skills.
I feel a burden to society sometimes.

I have been long term unemployed for most of my life, and it really is soul destroying. For most part of my life I feel like I have been living in the twilight zone and a person without a life.

All the time you also get the media rubbing it in about how people should go out and get jobs. For me it was the biggest reason why I needed to find out if I am slightly autistic because I have no idea why I never seem to get jobs.

I did work for a while which was about 3 years ago now and eventually had to walk out because of the lack of support by coworkers and matrix management meaning I had lots of people in charge of me.

I will say though its lonely even being in work when you are like I am because it was so hard to call anyone a true friend and also it wasn't a place to increase a social network what so ever. For most part of my life I have been focused on getting a job I enjoy doing which to me means everything really as its where you tend to spend most of your life.

Not being at work throughout my life as left me feeling worthless, freaky, pathetic, non productive, wasted and much more and feel like I am wasting my time by even looking for work any more. I even feel awkward asking for work and think that eventually I will just fade into the pathetic truth I really am for being such a lazy out cast.

I know what I am saying is not good at all but its how I feel and its one of those things I am not going to lie about to cheer you up. Life is about survival of the fittest and I am not fit or mentally strong I am just beneath everyone else.

I was out of work from 3/06 through 2/07. The first six months I collected unemployment. There were some days that I slept until 1 PM and didn't do anything. Other days I went to the pool and worked out. Over the late spring and summer of 2006 I had several interviews, but no offers. There was one company where I thought I had done everything right, had done well in the interview, only to be rejected after waiting three months. I was crushed. Those few days I didn't want to eat and couldn't sleep. Anyway, though, by October, my unemployment ran out.

When my unemployment ran out I called several temp agencies and started working in odd office jobs. I basically was a receptionist, data entry clerk, filer, and so forth. I did that through the end of 2006. In early February 2007 I finally started in a job in my field at full pay again. During the time that I was out of work, though, I felt depressed and hopeless at times. It felt even worse after each month because I was falling further in debt and my friends had jobs and careers. It sucked a lot.

So I know what you're going through. All that I can say is that almost everyone goes through a period of unemployment.

Is one considered "unemployed" if he/she is a full-time college student?

But it depends on what you mean by the question. Do you mean in terms of being able to collect unemployment? If so, I don't know; the answer probably depends on the state you live in. Generally, though, to qualify for unemployment, you have to be working at the same place at least year, have remained steadily employed, and lost your job through no fault of your own.

I mean just without a job in general.

college student is high school right? then that is not unemployment. Adult education is not unemployment either. But when i was a full student i sstill felt like studying was some kind of excuse to get out of working but than i realised it was my job to get an education so perhaps studying is a job.

maritimeblaze17 it sounds like you had a tough time, im glad to see you remained proactive in your search for work althrouh the sleeping to 1pm sounds like depression to me. Im very glad you made it, thanks for sharing. The same thing with my story is that all my friends have jobs and i also thought maby it was because i was autistic. My special ed teachers at school and teachers at TAFE had picked up on it but i never got diagnosed professionally. It does offer me relief to know i might have autism because it just a barrior i know i may be able to find ways to overcome.

nebula yes the media relly has a go at unemployed people. The problem is there are a few people who bludge to ruin it for the rest of us who are struggling in our individual circumstances. The media never sheds a ray of light on those who are actually trying unfortunately.

Brittany2907 dont feel guilty your only 16!! ! your still going to school? get your high school certificate and go see a careers counceller at your school you can use this time to get a nice resume put together and a career plan. You need to be supported finatially dont feel guilty you deserve it. :)

It was hard for me, because I felt hopeless. I was falling further in debt and there was nothing I could do beyond sending job applications to employers everyday. At its worst moments I did stay in bed until 1 PM because I didn't see the point of it. I'd stay up until 3 or 4 in the AM watching the History Channel and other networks. It was a very hard time for me, but I am grateful to God that I got through it.

Technically, no, because s/he's not considered part of the workforce. But he is considered part of it if he has a job.

I never worked in high school, and hated it. Worse, my younger brother and sister both had library jobs, which I think would've been perfect for me.

I'm averaging 1:1 years work/unemployed. So, not sure if thats long term, but I've noticed a cycle with myself.

Oh, and to answer the question the first few times I ended up in the hospital. Now, I don't really care. So far it isn't having any outcome. I look for work, apply, and hope for the best. Not much else I can do.

I am going through this right now and I feel like I am utterly useless. I really do want to work and am having a really hard time finding work in my particular field or any work for that matter. Nobody wants to hire me, although they seem to like to have me over for job interviews, but that's where it starts and I don't know what to do.

Have you looked into getting a library job? If your younger siblings are working there, maybe they can put in a good word for you. You could also volunteer in a local school library and get experience that way.

I didn't have a job when I got out of school. I was jobless until 2004, and that is when i joined the Army. I was in the Army for about six months, and then after that I was jobless again. I went to programs to teach me about how to act during job interviews, how to search the papers, ectcetera. In 2007, I did finally get a job at a grocery store.
I am still employed, and have gotten my frst benfits.

But what I must say is:
It took a while. I was jobless for about several years at a stretch at a time, but I eventually found a job. But to do it I had to be persitant. I had to keep lookng in the papers, and applying to differant places, and it took awhile. During that time I was at risk of quiting to look, and I was one of those people who slept until 1 pm. But I did it. It might take a bit of time to find one, but if you end up quitting, you will never get a job. In the meantime while I was searching, I thought i would never find one. I live in the country, and there are not too many places to find one. But I did find one, but it took a while. You will find one, though at the time it may not look like it.

i know what its like to be unemployed and to feel worthless and poor. i didnt go job hunting out of fear. can you believe it? i was so worried about being around other people, and having to make my boss happy, that i was afraid to be employed. i was jobless for 9 months, i think my parents sort of knew what was going on, and they didnt pressure me to get work, but i felt so awful
