Data entry is basically what it says, entering numbers and letters into a computer. Yes, it can be boring and tedious. Sometimes I do data entry but most of the time I do something similar in which I tell the computer to produce tables and graphs from the data someone else has already entered. Then I have to check it for errors. You have to have a sharp eye for that.

Where I work, only a few people are allowed Internet access at their workstation so that really isn't an issue. They also took away all our games. Frankly I do not see how you could do a good job entering data and surfing the Net at the same time. I have to really concentrate on what I am doing because it is so easy to make a mistake or miss something.

Data entry can be for example...

receiving papers (physical papers) that are receipts, lists, etc and inputting them into the company's database.

can also be processing information from one system the company uses to another.

its not a glamorous job but it usually has decent pay and requires little interaction.

Data entry =computer slave most jobs with that title about have x key pushs per hour. One of the other types would be scanning books, papers etc. Doing this type work will make you hate computers.

I did that as well - full time from 1972 (the days of punch cards) to 1986 and freelance/part time for another 10 years or so. I eventually managed to escape.
