I can not help it but people are really getting on my nerves lately. Either they are having fun joking around just because they know it bothers me, or they are being loud argh!

Help!

I don't really have any solutions to offer. But I'm in the same boat. We don't really have cubes, more like just 2 sides and my back is to a major traffic area. Everyone gathers around my cube to talk and cary-on like I'm not even there. Plus there's another person 30ft away who is so loud I can plainly hear her every word. I'm not really sure what to do other than to pray for some money for an Ipod so I can tune it out, although the people standing so close but out of my sight give me the heebie-jeebies. A couple of times I've joined in the conversation, intentionally inappropriately, and that seems to scatter them for a while. Its usually a bunch of women, so when they start gabbing about pregnancy or tampons, I add my opinions and it sort of takes the fun out of it for a while.

I thought I should clarify. My boss seems to think it fun to use sarcasm and humor ALL the time. I mean he is never serious and it is annoying when I have something important to speak with him about and I say something and he comes back with humor.

ARGH! *falls on floor face first

I can sympathize with ya. i work in a room with two other people and there's always people in and out asking questions. If I put on my headphones to try to ignore it they end up trying to talk to me so that I have to take them off. And heaven forbid I pretend I can't hear them...then they actually touch me *urk*.

Where I work they gave me a quiet out of the way corner with cube walls that go to the ceiling.

It is considered a reasonable accomodation for ADA. Makes a big difference

If your work computer has a CD-ROM drive and a sound card, why not just use that? Or buy a $10 portable CD player from Wal-Mart.. There's no need to suffer while you're saving up to buy an ipod! Just get yourself a nice set of headphones. The big over-the-ear type is best--if you don't feel like listening to music, they still do a great job of blocking all the noise. Radio Shack usually has a good, reasonably priced selection.

My headphones were what kept me sane when I used to work in a busy office. :)

My boss - why was trying to run me out - told me I couldn't play the radio because it bothered other people. That I couldn't use headphones because I might not hear something I needed to hear. The person in the other cubicle kept her own radio at the bare edge of audibility, which was more annoying than having it at normal volume.

Hmm... I am going to have to put this boss in a story or a novel somehow. That's the best revenge. But there are a lot of employers who will not only not accomodate your quirks, but who go out of their way to make sure they aren't 'indulged'.

Nope no swingline stapler but I can do a pretty good Milton impression, and I have large chunks of the movie in my head to quote from. :)

Are you going to go ahead and take care of that cockroach problem in the basement?

It's a Lumberg quote, from when he's telling Milton they're moving his desk into the basement, and oh while he's down there if he could take care of the rat problem, that'd be great, yeah.
