It's not that I don't believe in spanking but my AS child quickly taught me that hitting him means hitting is okay. I have spanked him in the past (on the bottom of course, just one controlled swat) and very rarely. It didn't take long before we discovered all we were doing was teaching him it's okay to hit when something doesn't go your way.

The fear and anxiety your child must be feeling - I hope you all someday manage to recover from this.

My Parents gave me Spankings, until I was 10. Than I've gotten into fights at my Elementary School in Grades 5 and 6. The reason that I pounded the Bullies who were picking on me, was because I've learned that might makes right, when I was getting spaknings as a small child. I was probably one of the most violent girls in my Elementary School.

You know, I forgot that was actually legal in some states (a lot of them at that). How f*****g archaic. It sounds like the f*****g 50s or something. It's illegal here in New Jersey, so I don't know how often teachers actually do such s**t elsewhere. Good thing it's not legal here. I'd probably strike back if a teacher hit me. I have no respect for authority, I'd treat it as if another kid hit me.

I was pretty shocked to read about the states that allow paddling, expecialy since I live in one of them! I remember knowing of two incidences of paddling when I was in school, I'm sure there were more, but I don't think my school did it much.

My kids only had one year of public school in Texas. (We homeschool now) The information that the school sent home about discipline made no mention of paddling. I can only assume that means that our school system did not use that as a punishment. I would not have put up with it, and I know other parents who would speak out about it. I wonder if it one of those archaic things that is still on the book, and no one has gotten around to changing the law?

I don't think punishment like that is allowed in Canada in the school systems, I know in Nova Scotia it doesn't seem to be allowed.

Paddling seems harsh for just writing on the board.
