Any of you doing cognitive affective therapy? Tony Atwood is one of the developers.
I'm trying to get started with my son (long overdue - we've had so much else to deaL with).
He loved the emotions barometer. But were do I go from here? How do I intergrate it in his way of thinking?
Have any of you tried it out, what was sucessfull, and how did you use it?

What is it? I've heard it mentioned too and would really like to know what it is, what it's used for and how effective it is?

I think smeelena talked about her boys having this therapy.

My boys have had this therapy and it's been very helpful.

The first step was the emotional thermometer.

Then the boys were given a 'toolbox' to help them deal with anger / anxiety etc

Hammer (physical activities)
eg going to the park, kicking/punching the punchbag, jumping on the trampolineetc

Paintbrush (special interest activities)
eg playing lego, yugi-oh, drawing, reading dragon books, going on WrongPlanet

Shovel (support people)
eg parents, adult friends, peers

Saw (thinking)
eg Replacing bad thoughts with good thoughts. Using logic to examine the bad/negative thoughts

Bad tools (ones that we should not use)
eg hitting brothers, calling people names, throwing things, swearing)

I really need to do more work on my website. I've been planning on putting their therapy notes up for months now. I'm thinking I might have to take a break from WrongPlanet for a few weeks so I've got time to work on my website. Or at least be strict and limit my time on WrongPlanet.

That sounds very interesting. I'd like to learn more.

The kit contains visual tools for understanding/talking about emotions.

I'd be really interested in how you worked with the different tools.
So far we've only started rating feelings on the thermometer. All my kids thought this was fun, so I suppose we have to start intergrating it in the way we talk about emotions.
My HFA son isn't very comfortable with the emotions - he can manage the basics - happy, angry, but so far would prefer to rate everything either 0 or 10 ! !

Hiya, Tony Attwood is our hero as well! I am very fortunate to be working indirectly but directly with him!

Katrine, I am sending you a pm with some information you may find helpful! x
