Of these consoles, which do you recommend?

Which one has the best game variety, and quality for the price?

Also, are most games still in physical form, or are they mostly downloadable these days?

IMO switch is the best console with 4745 games while xbox series has 546 games and playstation 5 has 790 games according to wikipedia.

It's also the cheapest option. You have the oled model with better definition in handheld . The normal switch for cheaper. Or the switch lite that's even cheaper if you just want to play in handheld. Switch also has the versatility of playing on your tv or in handheld. Playing mario kart or smash bros on a couch with other people is super fun. Just make sure to the protective screen covering so it doesn't scratch when you put it in the dock.

The downside to switch is the xbox and playstation have vastly better graphics

Steam Deck probably beats them all.

I had an Xbox Series S and a Switch. Never had a Playstation so can't speak for it.

If I were to buy another console now, I'd buy another Series S. I never needed the upgraded stats of the Series X.

I played more indie games than AAA titles and there's quite a good ecosystem for that around the Xbox.

Switch was a good console but I only had one for Zelda. Most Nintendo franchises are just a bit too cutesy for my tastes. I like Zelda games and Mario Kart is great but other than that, I struggle to find anything that interests me. Most non-Nintendo games are available on other platforms, and they're usually superior versions.

If you're going for any console, my advice is to avoid the shovelware, games that are quickly churned out by the thousands a day to make a quick buck. They look like children's games, but they're in very poor quality. They bloat the entire online store making it hard to find anything worthwhile. The Nintendo Wii Shop was notorious for having shovelware.

Fair. If you want AAA games or racing games or shooting games go with the steam deck. Usually AAA games on switch don't look too good. If you prefer Nintendo games go with the switch

Can you dock a steamdeck and play on a TV like a switch does?

Valve does indeed sell a dock so you can. It's sold separately though.
