I'm playing Disney's Tarzan again which I remember utterly loving as a young teen... and I'm finding it to be outright boring, even. It's harder than I remember - not sure if that's due to being bored or just not great at playing anymore, but I'm not really enjoying it either way (cool music, though).

Is it just me, or the specific game? (It is kind of repetitive.)

On a related note, don't platformers tend to be perfectionist? (Like in Tarzan where he has to collect all coins, all letters and pages to get 100% on a level.) That is, in a way, why I don't like them so much... oftentimes it's difficult to get everything in platformers, and it becomes repetitive.

I did when I was a kid. Nowadays, I prefer something more complex and in depth in terms of game play. Which is why I mostly play RPG/MMORPG's only now.

I love a lot of games, but platformers hold something special for me because they can be so diverse. This is because they blend well with other genres.

I would have to agree that it can be perfectionist at times, but not all platformers are about collecting shinies. The MegaMan series can attest to that (NOT the X series, though, with all it's bloody upgrades. Still fun, though.).

If you want some platformers that have gone down in my heart, I can recommend the Jak & Daxter series and Ratchet and Clank series. The latter is 3rd-person shooter from the start, but it is still a platformer without a doubt. Jak & Daxter becomes a mild 3rd-person shooter, too.
Actually, there's many more games to recommend, but they're usually hard. For instance, Devil May Cry is always just called an action series, but it has many platformer-like elements in it. The entire Metroid series, etc.

I love them. XD

My first video game (sonic 2) was a platformer, I played a lot of them when I was little. My favorites would probably have to be Super Mario Yoshi's Island and Sonic 2, followed by Sonic CD and 3. I'm the only person that doesn't list S&K3 as their favorite sonic game. The genesis Aladdin game was another goody too. I was crazy about Super Mario Galaxy as well! It was totally awesome, never got to play part 2 :(. Klonoa was wicked too, I played that game so much 8O

You be crazy. Then again, so am I. Knuckle's Chaotix and Sonic CD beat out my love of S&K3.

Aladdin was great. Both were, for the Genesis AND the SNES. They were different games.

Also, Super Mario Sunshine. That game was amazing fun, and so damn difficult.

I also posted Aero the Acrobat, earlier, as the hardest game I can think of. It's a platformer, too. It may be easier now that I'm older, but I doubt it.

The one platformer that got me as a youngin', and I mean really got me... was Mario 64. That was a such a 1337 game in it's time, especially for young players playing.

Yeah, platformers are fun, but I usually like them with a bit of a twist, like an RPG and/ or FPS element.

Mario (durrrr)
Jak and Daxter
Ratchet and Clank
Sonic
Uncharted
LittleBigPlanet
Conker
Rayman
Castlevania
Crash/Spyro OLD STUFF
Ape Escape
Donkey Kong
Kirby
NiGHTS
Megaman
Contra

all really good series

S3&K would be my favorite Sonic game, but they're too distinct for me to consider them one game, considering that they're full-priced and have different titles. I hope you don't mind me being a pedant.

Anyway, I love platformers, though there seems to be a shortage of truly excellent platformers lately. I love all of the classic Sonic games, CD included(and Colors was good too). I like all Mario platformers a lot, too, but Super Mario Galaxy is easily my favorite, and I consider it to be the best game ever.

The Donkey Kong Country games aren't bad. I'm a big Megaman fan as well, but I consider that more of an action game than a platformer.
