Watching people play video games on the internet

I have been doing this for the past few days. I enjoy watching people play their video games on you tube. It's like a virtual walk through telling you how to play the game.

First it was movies and documentaries and now it's games.

Another good thing about it is it shows you what the game is like so you can decide if the game is fun or not. It sucks when you buy a game and then play it and find it boring but you can't take it back. So you have to trade it in and you don't get all your cash back. But if it's used, you can take it back. But if you download a game on Wii and see you don't like it, bam you have just wasted your points.

Yeah I like watching those so called gameplay vids on youtube too :D And you're right it's a good way to decide whether the game's good enough for ya.

Yeah I know how that feels, once I bought Dragon Quest (forgot which one) on the PS2, it was a really high rated game and had lots of positive reviews. But when I played it I didn't like the gameplay, mainly cause it seem very unoriginal, and pretty much looked like a Final Fantasy ripoff. Luckily I got it from EB Games and they allow you to return the game within 7 days to get a full refund :D So I did that.

So it doesn't matter how much praise the game has but it's up to you whether you like it or not.

Game stores that sell used games will allow you to return new games and give you your full refund because they can resell the game.

You know come to think of it you could be right..... the deal does sound too good to be true, but meh did I tell you EB Games also allows you to add a 1 year warranty to the game so if it screws up you can return it and they'll give you another copy, and for pre-owned games whenever you buy them it comes with a 1 year warranty.

This helps me get good ideas for strategies to base my teams around in Pokemon Battle revolution. It also helps me figure out ways to max out UU Pokemon's potentials.

I like to look up games on You Tube to see if they seem worth buying or not. I also think it's fun to watch Halo 3 montages and MLG competitions. It can be helpful to look up strategies as well. It helped me defeat the final boss on Devil May Cry 4.

I only tend to watch people play games on the internet if I know they are better at the game than I am, because watching people suck at a game makes me want to log into that game, hunt them down, and beat their faces in repeatedly. Otherwise, I usually watch online gameplay videos in order to examine other players' playstyles, so that I may improve my own skills in that particular game. Most of the time I'll be at it for an hour or two before becoming horribly bored and logging into the game to bash faces of my own accord.

It may not seem very original today, but Dragon Quest set the standards in 1986 that console RPGs still follow to this day. Final Fantasy came out about a year later, and that series evolved into a much more linear storytelling medium, while the Dragon Quest series held quite firmly to its roots...so much so that they still use old NES sound effects, even on next gen consoles.

Haven't played too many of the new ones, but the original trilogy is one of my favorite gaming experiences ever. I'm pretty excited about the second trilogy coming to DS (in ENGLISH) \m/

I miss the days when a videogame demo used to be an entire episode, and you could get a really good feel for the game and decide if you wanted to buy it or not.

Today, if they even decide to release a demo, it'll be a dinky little one-level affair  I've played demos that seemed great, but found the full versions to be rather dull...but I've also played demos like Portal, where the demo itself was terribly boring, but the full version was great.

I like watching "tool-assisted speed runs" when they perform crazy glitches. Beating Mario 64 with zero stars and zipping through walls in Mega Man 2 come to mind =)

Speedruns blow my mind @_@

I thought Quake speedruns were crazy, people taking damage from monsters to accelerate their rocket jumps...then I saw PORTAL speedruns.

I tried recording a portal speedrun once. It wasn't that bad for a while - had 24 minutes on the clock at the end of the last test chamber, but somehow I ended up falling into the fire. Even worse, my game had autosaved literally half a second before I dropped dead, and since I had the number of autosaves available set to 1, I had to start all over again. I'm a very sad test subject after that one.

I have watched speed runs, the resident evil ones always amazed me, dodging zombies was something I spent a lot of time learning, and for it to work there still had to be just the right amount of space, yet people seem to be able to dodge multiple zombies really fast like 20 in a row without taking damage.

Also the elder scrolls III: Morrowind speed run was crazy, they didn't use any cheats, and beat it in 7 minutes, by just using complex spells and abilities together, I like that game but it is was to complex for me.

yep, and apparently the earlier u trade a new game the higher the trade value.

this month they have this deal where u can trade in your DS lite console for a different colour one. u need to bring the console (complete and working), 2 DS games and $49.
