I totally adore these games, I wouldn't have got into games without them, therefore not Sonic, and wouldn't be here

Personally, Leon was easily my fave character, I think he's EASILY the best of the characters, and have since 1999 when I first played RE2

I don't know what it was, I just loved him as a character, his desire to protect everyone he found during the RE2 Incident, his story with Ada Wong in that game, the way he saved her when he took that bullet Annette fired...such a great character, even at 9 years old I loved the guy

I was so beyond happy to see him make a return in RE4, I really was Very Happy Image

I'm kinda upset he's apparantley not even going to be remotly in RE5 though ;(

He was briefly featured in Code Veronica too, I recall- when Claire calls/e-mails him.

My favourite character is Barry. His quotes are so legendary.

Though I like Resident Evil, I've always been a little put off by the very artificiality of the design. Specifically the manner in which the environments are 2 dimensional and the characters are not. I feel like I'm playing a violent version of King's Quest rather than exploring and interacting with a ravaged zombiee-infested world. I don't know if later RE games did away with these contrivances and evolved the gameplay or not. How do they compare to parts one and two?

The more recent RE games have improved on this a lot:

Resident Evil: Code Veronica is fully 3D, and while it still uses the varied camera angle approach of the earlier games, it does help with the immersion as the camera tends to rotate and move about more dynamically.

Resident Evil 0 and the Resident Evil Remake for Gamecube are both in the style of the older RE games, although the background graphics are almost photorealistic and contain many 3D elements and incredible lighting effects, dust, etc- so that also helps make it seem more real than just a flat backdrop.

Resident Evil 4, the most recent incarnation of the RE series, is fully 3D and the camera angle is set over the shoulder of the character, so a complete change from earlier games.

I absolutely love the latest RE game. I Find it a bit hard to go back to the older ones now.

I've never played any the Reisdent Evil games (don't play consoles--should though), but if I did have a PS2 I'd definately play Resident Evil 4. I very much like the trailers.

RE5's graphics are really amazing, too....

I'm in the middle of the 4th installment right now. Good so far but the escorting is one heck of a pain.

Slight Spoiler Alert!

You only have to escort periodically as Ashley loves getting herself kidnapped.

I thought Ashley is alright. She's less infuriating than most 'escorting' characters as she can hide and does what you tell her to do.

I also love the LR/AB cutscenes for that sense of panic!

It gets a lot better though when she gets the suit of armor as a cloathing choice - clunky and annoying, yes, but at least in the castle you don't have much to worry about when she's up working the levers or at the ground floor making a run for the key cuz nothing can touch her or even pick her up for long enough to be of risk.

I never found escorting her to be difficult; then again I've gotten used to micromanaging between her following me and staying put; in the area where she had to pull levers, I got good at getting headshots in with the Sniper Rifle...in the end she wasn't too bad; now if only those 2 policemen followed me and Ada Wong and Luis Sera, I'd have my own squad...too bad the game forces you to be alone for so long...

Resident Evil 4 (PS2) is my best by far :D Definately the scariest, jump out of ur skin installment of the series. Took me about a month (not literally :p) to complete as i was also playing Pro Evolution Soccer 5 at the time.

I hated the long cut scene fights with Krauser, because i died loads lol.

I disliked the lack of multiplayer (co-op would rock), the ability to strafe, and that you spent too much time fighting the same enemies over and over again.
